Will do this again this year. This is different than Coffeecatting, but could overlap with it to some degree. I’ve tweaked the rules a little from last year:

    1. The object is to visit as many DIFFERENT LOCAL, i.e., DMV, coffee places as possible (on your bike, of course!). But once you visit one place, that’s it. A second visit doesn’t count.

    2. Starbucks is verboten. But other chains, e.g., Peet’s, Cosi, etc., are fair game. However once you visit one chain outlet, that’s it. A visit to the same outlet but at a different location doesn’t count. I know the Starbucks ban is arbitrary, but my prize so my rules. :)

    3. “Swamp” coffee, e.g., 7-Eleven, Wawa, etc., is OK but subject to the same conditions as in #2 above.

    4. Bakeries, restaurants, and even fast food joints that serve coffee are also OK but subject to the same conditions as in #2 above.

    5. For your ride to count, use #FS2019coffeeride in your Strava ride title and include the name of the place you visited, e.g., #FS2019coffeeride Java Shack. NOTE: Posting of coffee rides is totally honor system, i.e., I’m assuming you’re following the rules. Not required, but encouraged, is to also post pics on your Strava. And if you want to post your Strava ride link and pics on this thread for all to see, that would be fun too (but not required).

    6. The winner will be whoever has visited the most DIFFERENT coffee places.

    7. The tiebreaker will be whoever has the coffee shops per coffee ride miles ridden.

    8. If needed, the second tie breaker will be whoever has visited the most “swamp coffee” places.

    9. FINALLY, both consularrider and bikedavid are welcome to play but aren’t eligible to win this year. Sorry guys! :( But you won prizes last year and I’d like to give someone else a chance to win.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Get your caffeine game on!

Good to see you last night. I knew you would win the side bet. :) Just disappointed in you that you didn’t do it all in one ride! :)

I passed by all 15 coffee shops in one ride today. Was somewhat tempted to have more coffee but better judgement ruled the day and I ended up getting only one coffee at Commonwealth Joe which I’ve never been to before. Cute place. Couldn’t help but notice their rocket fuel. Instead of sampling 15 coffee shops in one ride you could just get 4 of these for the equivalent amount of caffeine…2cbafb1a70cdc9535c03574c25730b50.jpg

Question about local coffee shops that have multiple locations: are they subject to Rule 2 or would Northside FC and Northside Arlington count as two separate places?

Rule #2 applies. One location for a chain … national, regional, or local.

Gotcha. One more rule clarification: What about shop rides that end with coffee? Isn’t free coffee the reason we do shop rides?

Just apply the same logic. One shop ride = one coffee ride. Can’t count more than one ride per shop ride. For example, once you do the Conte’s Falls Church Saturday hill ride with coffee afterwards, you can’t count it again. And once you do a shop ride for one store with multiple locations, you’re done. So if you do the Conte’s Old Town shop ride, you can’t count the Conte’s Falls Church shop ride. Not required, but nice to know is what kind of coffee the shop provided.

I am told that at both Conte’s FC and Conte’s OT it “only the best coffee.”

    #FS2019coffeeride #06: WholeFoods (Vienna)

Enjoyed a WF daily brew of French Roast as the winds howled and temps plummeted, together with @CBGanimal, @Komorebi and @SteveO, following @LynnSalvo’s presentation of her awesome Guinness Book of World Records “Peace” ride across Canada, at the Vienna Community Center.

How did I not know about Nectar Del Ray until recently?!?! This adorable little coffee shop/cafe is at the corner of Mount Vernon Ave and Commonwealth in Alexandria. They’ve got great waffles and mulled wine along with the usual coffee shop fare.

Today I skipped the waffles and got coffee and a muffin since I had lunch not too long before my ride. f0abe36fa6fffea00e0ebcd66089090a.jpg268f3cbf06b122e3f68423d8893c4831.jpg

I discovered this place a couple years ago. Just enough off the beaten path to not be easily found/known about. A real gem.

    Some belated postings, first up:

#FS2019coffeeride (08): Dog Tag cafe in Georgetown DC, the rendezvous point for @HandlebarsDC’s Alleys of DC ride last month with an oaty latte in my travel mug. 65473c13030c4826ad8c5bf1e20b52c9.jpg

#FS2019coffeeride (10): Firehook Bakery in Cleveland Park neighborhood of Washington DC. A rude espresso during @Chuxtr’s Presidents Day Ride, as Firehook’s owner couldn’t have have been grumpier while serving, and then came outside to the empty patio where we were the lone patrons to say that it was too crowded for us to park our bikes inside the gated (and did I say empty) outdoor patio.

#FS2019coffeeride (11): Misha’s in Alexandria VA was another espresso (and peanut butter cookie) while searching for @Judd’s Presidents Day ride, which we ultimately found in time for a lovely group lunch at Whole Foods! f4614bcffb031afb5c70a380b7ffb59a.jpg

#FS2019coffeeride (09): North Street Standard, Bristol UK. My out-of-sequence, Out-Of-Bounds from last week while in the UK on business, flat white coffee. Also found some cool street graffiti while shopping for groceries. I’m claiming this within the 20% cap for this category, but will reclassify to the OOB category if I’ve interpreted the rules wrongly. 6b13abf4531f83d670dc9adff0f761eb.jpg

    #fs2019coffeeride (12): Cafe Kindred

Had an almond latte in my trusty Coffeeneur travel mug with @CBGanimal at Cafe Kindred off the WOD trail in the Little City of Falls Church, were we took refuge from the chilly rain after doing the Navy Federal Loop route in Vienna, VA.

    @CBGanimal
also enjoyed pancakes while I succumbed to a chocolate brownie. We parked our bikes at the bike rack inside the parking garage and used the rear entrance, which kept both us and our bikes dry!:-)66e8d3104953d9cceaaeb47121f24d30.jpg
