Finally made it to the B Doughnut Pop up in Union Market. It was quite busy today, maybe because it was a drizzly day. Unfortunately they ran out of the lox donut so won’t be able to compare with the cream cheese and chive donut from District Doughnut. Instead I got the lemon curd which was still pretty delicious. More reasons to go back!00f9bb4752d1d6d78d513f1f994bdf9d.jpg68b414955a692e2dc1693f9fda350898.jpg

Today’s donutride was really hard. I stopped at five places and found no qualifying pastries so I gave in and stopped at the Village Pantry at E 3rd St and S Jordan Ave in Bloomington, IN where I bought a package of six Little Debbie LCDs and ate two standing out front.

My final Bloomington coffeeride for FS2018, now on to Arlington. This morning I heaed to Jack’s Donuts, a fairly new establishment that I had tried to find on Saturday in the rain and missed because they have no sign on the main road, just in the strip mall. I had the house blend drip (they also offered espresso based drinks using a German machine) and a carmel-carrot cake doughnut and a Bavarian Cream Bismark/Berliner/Kreppel. Both were very yummy?

Doughneurers, you may know I love the Maple Bacon Donuts! If you are a meat/pork consumer, then you probably agree that the bacony-salty-sweet bacon treats are a true delicacy.
From March 1 through March 10th, seek out and enjoy a few.

A local favorite in Portland OR and Denver is the Voodoo Doughnut’s take on it:

A question, the Rainbow Bakery in Bloomington, IN where I stopped on Sunday had a shelf label for maple bacon, but had none. I meant to ask them how they could have a “bacon” vegan doughnut, but if they did, would that qualify?

Also today’s donutride stop was at Best Buns where I had a cinnamon raisin danish.

Yes. If you or anyone can find and eat a bacon vegan doughnut, I will award pointless points.
Any pseudo bacon vegan doughnut will be considered. Post your findings for all to see. e

Went to WTFCC at Whole Foods in Pentagon City for today’s doughnut ride. No true doughnuts, but they did have a chocolate croissant. It started to rain as Steve O and I left, so I bagged my plan for additional stops and headed home.

Ran into the Team USA women’s ice hockey team at Astro. They too needed donuts this morning. Didn’t see whether they got a maple bacon but I did see one of them getting a raspberry rose. They are gold medal approved!efc1f502aa0e047f803289c9efab1ac9.jpgb6c31491b1070bd1bb39adee3f9d3801.jpg

    Doughneurers!

Just reconfirming the End of Freezing Saddles’ Weekend Doughnut Rides on Saturday March 17th (yes, St. Partick’s Day!!) and Sunday, March 18th.

The Saturday Ride 17 March will officially begin at Proteus Bikes in College Park at 10:00. The ride will exit the Beltway to the north briefly (for doughnuts, of course!), then shoot south on the Trails to the Anacostic Riverwalk Trail to Benning Road, with the first stop in the District at Union Market, target arrival time before/around noon. Then we will circle around DC hitting four more doughnut shops before heading back to the Realm in the North, with a finish at (yes) yet another doughnut purveyor, Milkboy in College Park–also an option for a full menu of food and drinks. Start-to-End Mileage is 37.2. Joining en route is fine, and you can peel off as needed, as well.

Specifics on the Virginia Ride March 18th will be posted shortly.

You can begin RSVPing for Maryland-DC Ride now. Please note if you plan to join at Proteus, or en-route so we can coordinate our meeting up. The long range weather forecast looks pretty good! No wind!

Too bad I’ll be back in Germany for the End of FS Doughnut Rides. :(

So today I did a Maple Bacon donutride to Duck Donuts on Harrison in Arlington. Fun getting blown around again and we weren’t allowed to sit outside because of fallen power lines. I also had the chocolate-peanut-caramel doughnut. I’m still not a big fan of Duck, to me they seem underdone and since I am eating them at the shop they toppings are always runny.

Since RSVPs are open: as of now, the #kidical and I are in for part of the 3/17 donut ride (she’s still jealous of the donut sticker I got last year). Most likely we’ll meet folks at Union Market and hit the DC shops.

One thing to note about B. Doughnut at Union Market – some of the flavors (especially the savory ones or speciality ones, like the Lucky Charms one it looks like they’ll have coming up) have a tendency to sell out pretty quickly on the weekend. (They seem to have gotten a bit better at expecting demand, but there’ve been a few times when I’ve gotten there around 10AM – an hour after they’ve opened – and they’re already starting to sell out of some flavors.) Given that – if there’s something that folks just have to try, it may make sense to try to coordinate a pre-order to guarantee it’ll be there when folks arrive.

Yes, Exacatly, you beat me to the punch, but I will be taking PRE-ORDERS for B Doughnut on Saturday for Union Market. AND on Sunday for their B pop-up at the Stand in Arlington. More on that a bit closer to the dates, once I start to see what the RSVPs are. Virginia-DC route should get posted today if I find another minute to do it. edelweiss

FYI – as of now, at least, pre-orders are only accepted at the Union Market, Leesburg, and Mosaic District locations (and I think the pop-up was only open Tuesday-Friday), unless you have an inside scoop on an upcoming change :)
