Playing on the Pugsley with Cyndi, we rode to Oberursel then climbed the gravel forest trails in the Taunus over to the Römerkastell at Saalburg before descending to Bad Homburg for cappuccinos a mini Schokocroissant and mini Spitzkuchen (cruller) at the Café Louise.

Beautiful! But I think there were some Gaudy ones in that case! That blue one was pretty awful; any Geraniums submitting a Gaudy?

1/21 donut ride. As I was driving Cyndi to the airport, the sun broke through and shone down upon the fresh snow in the Taunus. So of course I came home and changed into cycling kit and headed for the hills. I rode to Oberursel, up into the forest, and over to Falkenstein. I had the pleasure of riding on the snow for about six of the 28 miles, the deepest being about three inches. Since I didn’t leave home until 10:30, most of the bakeries that would be open on a Sunday wee already closed by the time I went by and my countryside route didn’t pass very many cafes either. I gave in and stopped at the McCafé in the McDonalds at Schwalbach am Taunus. Very good coffee, tasty ciabatta with tomato and mozzarella, and a “candy” donut (red white and blue sprinkles on white icing).

Gaudy donut for you. We agreed DD isn’t the place to go for especially gaudy . Still yummy

In my pursuit of a donut patch and encouraged by my friend streetsmarts I submitted to one of these bedraggled confections. It was colored like a cockroach and was gooey and creamy on the inside like a cockroach. It may have been a cockroach. It was delicious.

Monday #fs2018donut ride. I had plan on this being a dawn patrol in the snow, and at 3 am there was snow falling, but at 7 am it was just drizzle and thee was no accumulation so I went back to sleep. Then I was going to combine it with my ride to the Consulate for German classes and lunch with my wife, but guess what. Language classes are suspended for the duration of the government shutdown, no surprise there. Eventually I dragged my sorry self out as the sun was setting (although you couldn’t see it in the overcast gloom). I stopped at Bäckerei Hessenthaler in Eschersheim and got one of the last things they had, a Schokocroissant to have with my pod coffee. It was still pretty fresh even for the end of the day.

Tuesday #fs2018donut ride to the Commissary in Wiesbaden. I got a chocolate cake doughnut for energy for the ride home (with an extra 32 pounds of groceries in my panniers) and some Tastykake Little Chocolate Doughnuts (aka Breakfast of Champions) to fuel tomorrow’s planned century.

Going for gaudy with the Cake Batter at the Krispy Kreme in Dupont. It didn’t seem to taste like a cockroach to me although I have no point of comparison.

Also pleased to find that they still have the passion fruit glazed donut at Breadfurst. Highly recommend if you like passion fruit.

#fs2018donut century. I stopped in Dieburg at mile 25 at Bormuth Der gute Bäcker and found out Hump Day Coffee Club was meeting. I’m not quite assimilated enough to ask to share a table, so I took my coffee and Schokocroissant out to the market square.

Bought some “authentic” “beignets” at coffee club this morning. I think those are French words for “not” “good”. They were chilled, slimy and the filling was hiding in much dough. Reji was unlucky enough to try one and I ate the rest immediately because I hate myself.
