Participant1/5 #fs2018dirtybiker ride. Back out on my Pugsley running errands and unsuccessfully trying to find doughnuts. I did get about three miles on crushed stone and gravel in a ten mile ride again in Grüneburgpark and Niddapark, hitting some different trails/paths.

ParticipantTuesday, 1/9 morning loop along the Nidda River to its confluence with the Main. Rode through Nidda, Brentano, and Solms Parks for the Nidda Route, then along the Höchst Schloss gravel path before crossing over the Main and riding along the dirt/mud/gravel stretch of the Hessen R3 cyclepapth between the river and the Schwannheimer Düne. About three miles out of the day’s 27 mile total qualified. The river level has started to go down, but one railroad underpass on the Nidda Route was flooded, it looked like about a foot deep.

ParticipantMany of my miles will qualify for this, but almost none of them will be in the MORE area and, to be honest, I won’t always post photos here nor remember to use the hashtag. Wish Strava would implement the ability to denote a trail ride vs road rides . Take a look at this Strava survey on this:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfggMF0bu-WD9gQs5Oi29-9k6dACFrAVlT1-VQeNRG7m4sUOA/viewform?c=0&w=1
and this feature request: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208834897-Mountain-Bike-as-separate-activity-type-or-tagMy photos of my ride from Jan 9th. Do not capture the best parts, but I was not going to stop in the best parts to take photos. Restarting in those rock gardens is nearly impossible.

and this feature request: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208834897-Mountain-Bike-as-separate-activity-type-or-tagThanks for the mountain hit, Raymo. I freakin’ love mountain biking out west and all the grand panoramic views, which you don’t get as much here.
When I started this Pointless Prize, I hoped that there was an easy way to differentiate between dirt and road through Strava, but AFAIK, there isn’t. Chatting with Hozn, he mentioned that I could give him links to all the Strava segments in the parks I listed and if someone rode on them, he or the vol team could code something up and it would automatically register for the PP. Since I never pay attention to segments, I wasn’t familiar with how abundant they were. I started with one park (Wakefield or Lake Accotink) and soon realized that there are a sh!t ton of segments, and even more when you zoom in. I decided to nix it because I don’t have 2 solid weeks to find and list all of them. Thus, the hashtag.

ParticipantMy focus for today’s ride was a three mile semicircular series of anlages that are the location of the former Frankfurt city walls. These park trails are Belgian Block and have a crushed stone side-path for about two-thirds of the distance. There are also winding crushed stone paths. Lots of mud from all the rain we’ve been having. In addition I did a loop around Grüneburgpark and Niddapark and then headed out the Nidda thinking to ride the single track on the right bank out to Bonames. Part of that was flooded and I fell in the slop (I did not stop to take a photo).

ParticipantBack riding loops in Grüneburg and Nidda parks on the crushed stone, then out the Nidda Route to Bonames to ride up the gravel switchbacks in the Nordpark, nine switchbacks with about 75 feet of climbing. The gravel was refreshed last fall and now it is harder to do since it is loose in the corners.

ParticipantDid a group ride (https://www.strava.com/activities/1357620310) on my local system: Devils Backbone, Blue Sky and Coyote Ridge.
The ride leader Evan got some good photos of me riding so I can meet the request for action photos:
This first one shows one of the rockier parts, but not the rockiest, along the Laugh Horse Loop. In a similar section with a much greater off camber slope, I have rolled off 4 rear tires on the worse of it.
I find this last one a reminder of why the riding out here bothers me sometimes. The barren starkness just bothers me, especially in June and July when there is no way to escape the sun.
