ParticipantDidn’t see it forbidden in the rules, but I don’t think the leaderboard supports it — can we hit multiple coffee places during the same ride and have them both count, subject to the normal restrictions? I’m planning out a long ride and trying to maximize my #FS2018coffeeride potential (only planning on going to two or three places, nothing obscene).

Not forbidden by the rules, but …
I think the leaderboard will only count as 1 because it just tallies if you did a ride with the #BAFS2018coffeeride in your ride title as a single ride. You could post here any rides you did that visited more than one coffee shop for the record. If there is a tie and someone says they visited more coffee shops than rides because they hit up a couple of places on a single ride, I suppose I could review all the rides on Strava (as long as the user doesn’t have their privacy settings set to completely private). Or not.

Tuesday #FS2018coffeeride. We stopped at the Café wewe on the Büchereibrücke in Bad Vilbel. The town’s public library is a bridge over the Nidda River and the café is part of that. Since we actually had sun for a change we sat at an outside table, I had an Americano, Schokobrot and a tomato and mozzarella panini while my two riding partners had kartoffelsuppe and milchkaffee.

I have not been to Deutschland. These pics make me want to go!

ParticipantAfter German class I had to get something to eat since my wife was busy with meetings and couldn’t join me. I stopped at Hoppenworth & Ploch Craft Coffee on Friedberger Landstraße in the Nordend-Ost section of Frankfurt. This is a micro-roaster and today their special filter coffee was a geisha. I found it to be a little weak for my taste. They had no pastries that qualified for #fs2018donut, but I did have a panini.

ParticipantIt’s Groundhog Day and no shadows were seen on today’s ride. I stopped for coffee and a doughnut at Der Vogelsbergbäcker in Karben at the halfway mark. This one may have qualified as swamp coffee since it was from a glass carafe on hot plate instead of fresh from a machine. It wasn’t overcooked, however.

It was a five stork day, three flew in front of me just before I got to Bad Vilbel and then these two were in a nest (one flew over from another nest) near Gronau.

ParticipantSaturday back to Bad Homburg and Oberursel with Carlos. We stopped at the Schäfer dein Bäcker in Oberursel where I had the Kaffee Crema and a Schokobrötchen.

ParticipantChilly ride with snow flurries and disappointed that the Lilu Ponton Café didn’t have any pastries.

ParticipantThe fanciest library coffee shop! This is from Bluestone Lane an Aussie chain that recently opened an outpost inside the recently renovated West End library. So strange seeing people waiting for a table in the library side like in Kramerbooks. Spotted some staff with Aussie accents and advocado smash as they call advocado toast. The coffee was great.

ParticipantAnother fun discovery is Cafe Chocolate near the White House. Found out about it from reading an article in the Post where they were offering free coffee for immigrants from s-hole countries. I thought would go and support them. They carry Haitian and other high end chocolate. The hot chocolate was rather tempting as you pick which ones you like from a jar and then they melt it for you but don’t think it counts for the coffee ride so got coffee instead. Good stuff.

ParticipantDoes outdoor coffee made by someone else count? Perhaps they should count as a chain, so you can only do it once. In either case, I tagged a ride this morning like this, but I can remove the tag if need be (although I’m not a contender).

I was not including outdoor coffee for this pointless prize. As far as leaving the tag in your ride … if you’re not a contender, it’s probably a no harm, no foul situation. Just don’t let it happen again!

ParticipantAfter class and lunch, I did some dirtybiker loops in the parks and went looking for a café/bäckerei I haven’t used before. I ended up at Härdtlein on Hügelstraße on Ginnheim. A regular coffee and the doughnut had some pudding in it.

What would it take for Great Eskape Cafe(TM) to become an official coffee place?

Decided I still have dreams of climbing to the top, which might unfortunately involve a caffeine overdose to get there, so the tag’s gone.

If you’re asking me if I’m willing to make outdoor coffee part of the challenge, the answer is “sorry, but no.” I know that’s part of Mary Gersemalina’s Coffeeneuring Challenge but I don’t want to include for this pointless prize. I know that’s an “arbitrary” decision (as is excluding Starbucks but allowing other chains, including “swamp coffee” such as 7-11), but we the makers of the pointless prizes are allowed to be arbitrary (and that’s sort of the point).
But if Great Eskape Café(TM) is a real brick and mortar place that serves coffee, then it counts for the challenge.
