#FS2018coffeeride #1 – A Baked Joint. This is easy because it’s Friday Coffee Club, but no one said it had to be hard.

Coffee club is fair game. But if y’all go to the same place every week, then only your first visit counts.

Luckily I think Swings opens before BAFS is over so I’ll get at least two…

Not sure where you are or are riding to, but here’s a list of possibilities:

Great place. New. (Space used to be occupied by a Latin American chicken joint; I think their sign is still up.)

Since I can’t get yesterday’s gps file for the ride to Café Castillo in Oberursel, I’m reuse that stop for a later ride and treat today’s stop at Balzac Coffee on Grüneburgweg in the Nordend West district of Frankfurt as coffee ride #4. Just had their basic Dinho Kaffee (Brazilian filter). Afterwards I rode though town to the Main River which is starting to overflow.

The drizzle and rain has stopped so I headed ENE out the Hohestaße (also part of the Via Regia or Jakobsweg/St James Way/Camino de Santiago across Europe from Kyiv to Santiago de Compostello) towards Schöneck. However, we didn’t leave until about 10:15 and the bakeries in that area are only open from 8 to 11 am (if at all) on Sundays so there was no chance for coffee until we were headed back towards Frankfurt on the Nidda Route. We stopped at the Eispass in Bad Vilbel and had a bratwurst, but the only warm drink was Glühwein and we were not in the mood. We only had to go across the stream to Der Bäcker Eifler for a Kaffee Crème and an Apfelsnitte.

Sleazy coffee ride to Lulabelle’s Sweet Shop, newish to Upshur St in Petworth. I enjoyed my cappuccino, and the almond croissant was delicious. Coffee is by Lost Sock, and pastries and cookies are by Bluebird Bakery. They also have donuts and bagels from Bethesda Bagels, and ice cream by Taharka Brothers. Also some cute gifty items, mugs, aprons, tea towels, etc. Barista had been riding to work up until the cold snap.

I’m learning that my phone’s getting too cold, even in my pocket, as this is the second time Strava has choked and lost part of my ride. This shorts me almost half a mile! (Also, had I realized that the route I took wasn’t the just-over-two-miles I thought it was, I would have looped the circles. Oh well.) Guess I should take my husband up on his offer of a Garmin as a belated Christmas gift. 😎

Here’s Sweet Science in Adams Morgan. It’s hidden in a basement of an Aghan restaurant. A sign outside says something like 16 steps to bliss. They have a “slow coffee” bar where you pick the coffee bean and the staff decides which one of the gazillion coffee making apparatus on their shelf would be best for brewing that coffee. Instead I opted for something faster, the cappuccino noir with chocolate flakes. Definitely bliss.91dae2a6461f0ce6c8065f380d809353.jpg2e129e8e38bbfd06ac44bd1a1568bf7e.jpg

Tryst in Adams Morgan. If Friends was filmed in DC this would be the place with their cushy sofas. Not sure if this counts as coffee but I am a sucker for their chai latte. Believe all their coffees come with animal cookies. Hear them roar.dafa658ff3eb11a5382324f9a8994233.jpg

Cosi seems to be disappearing in our area. Maybe it is now in higher demand!

No #FS2018coffeeride today since my coffee before German class was from the Consulate Starbucks.
