The pictures have been great so far. If you want to see all of them at once, on your phone, go to Instagram and click on the search icon at the bottom of the screen, type #bafs2015 in the search box and choose HASHTAGS.
If you want to see them on a web site, try going here (you may have to login with your instagram id and authorize gramfeed): http://www.gramfeed.com/instagram/tags#bafs2015
I count only four of my photos in that screenshot…I need to step up my game.

ParticipantI may expand the website to start scouring all the #BAFS2015 photos, though simply syncing with Strava fits a little more cleanly in the “keep Strava as authority db” model.

ParticipantThanks!
I got Instagram–>strava working (although it doesn’t do a great job of picking the right activity to link to if you’ve done multiple rides in one day)
Now I just have to figure out how to get my handiwork to show up on the freezingsaddles.com home page where it belongs
I think my problem might be caused by posting the picture to instagram after FS has already imported the Strava data. Even if the picture later gets associated with a particular ride, there’s no trigger to sweep in the picture data since FS already has ingested the strava activity. For example, I took a picture on my morning ride, but didn’t post it to instagram right away (and hadn’t linked my strava & instagram accounts at that point anyway). Now that my accounts are linked, I’ll have to take and post a picture on the ride home and see if that manages to find its way to the website.
I don’t know if that’s really something that needs to be “fixed” on the website… but lunkheads like me need to understand how to make it work.
btw, this is the picture I took this morning that I wanted to see on the website:

ParticipantNice photo! Maybe we will recheck photos for already-processed rides on a nightly basis. But only for the past day or so, since otherwise we would be making thousands of additional requests, which would push me over API limits.

ParticipantQuick update — I was correct about the problem. I took a picture tonight along my ride (I am a sucker for monuments) and posted to instagram right then. When I finished the ride, I saved in Strava as normal and Strava grabbed the photo from Instagram. When FS ingested the Strava activity, it grabbed the picture along with it and it’s now on the FS daily photo feed.
So bottom line for those trying to make this work:
1. Use #BAFS2015 in the Instagram description
2. Associate your instagram with strava (via strava profile>settings>social connections)
3. Post any photos before you save the strava rideJanuary 13, 2015 at 4:11 am #1019972americancyclo
ParticipantThis goes for folks that upload with a Garmin as well. I always post to Instagram before uploading my gps track to Strava

ParticipantOk, but will Strava only publish pictures “associated” with the ride? If I instagram a picture of dinner a few hours later, does that end up in my Strava and BAFS feeds?

ParticipantIn order to be associated with a ride, the photo must be posted to Instagram during the course of the ride or within a few minutes after you finish. So no, pictures from your dinner a few hours later will not link to your Strava ride.

ParticipantThe Strava-Instagram link doesn’t seem to be that accurate. It might be as long as an hour for a photo before/after a ride for a photo to get grabbed by Strava. For example, I rode multiple times on Sunday, but Strava associated a picture I took in the middle of the 3rd ride (and didn’t post until well after ride #3) with ride #2.
There is a simple “reject” process in Strava where you click a photo associated with the ride and in the bottom right corner click “unlink from Strava”

ParticipantYou can trigger a manual sync for an activity, it will then check your Instagram for any new unlinked photos within the time frame of your ride (something like 30-45 mins around the activity).
I agree it’s annoying if you have multiple rides within than time window though. Occasionally I’ll make sure I upload the ride and get the right photos on Instagram and sync’d to the first ride before finishing or Instagramming the second ride (this usually happens if I’m say, switching bikes or adding a trailer, etc).

ParticipantGiant Kudos to the geniuses who put the photo feed on the FS home page. You inspired me to down lode the Instant Graham application thingy. I believe I may have actually, really, yes, posted a photograph, although my hand got pretty cold alternating between scratching my head and touching various spots on my phone screen.

ParticipantSo my picture shows up if you search on #bafs2015 in Instagram, but it’s not finding its way to the Freezing Saddles home page.
Is that because it has to be associated with my ride first? I haven’t uploaded my ride; I usually do that in the evenings, but sometimes it’s a day or two later. Will Strava still figure it out? And if it’s a day-old photo will it be skipped over for fresher ones?@Steve O 105491 wrote:

And Yes. I think any Instagrams posted during a ride and up to 30 minutes after sync up with a Strava activity once the rise is up. It can take a few minutes for the sync to take place, even if you manually force the sync using the tool under the wrench icon to sync photos.

I think so.

ParticipantYeah, I will change the logic to just show the last X (15? 18?) photos instead of the current day only.
I also will add a photos page to just show all of them. Maybe grouped by day.
I might pull in the non-sync’d photos from #bafs2015 tag too. Wouldn’t be hard, just have to do a little work since current photo back end is tied to rides.
And lots of other things I want to do still. Probably this weekend.

ParticipantI should make a chart correlating temp and precipitation with photo counts too!
