    Let’s get this started…

I will once again be awarding the Loopy for Arlington Pointless Prizes for completing the most Arlington Loops (for the uninitiated: W&OD Trail from the Custis intersection to its eastern terminus, 4-Mile Run Trail from Shirlington Rd. to its eastern terminus, the MVT from DCA to its northern terminus at Roosevelt Island, and the whole Custis trail). There will be 3 prizes: Most Clockwise Loops (for those who need to unwind), Most Counter-Clockwise Loops (for those who need to get wound up), and Most Matching Loops (for those seeking balance in life, or who simply like to go both ways).

    How do you play?

Unlike Hains Point laps, the Arlington Loop can actually get you to useful places, so the game is designed so you don’t have to literally ride the entire trail route to count a completed loop, and you don’t have to do a complete loop in a single ride, or even a single day, either (for example, you can do half the loop on your morning commute, and the other half on your evening commute the next day). A loop is counted each time you collect all 8 short segments located near the trail intersection points. So collect loops while coffeeneuring, beerneuring, doneuring, or errendneuring.

For a clockwise loop, collect these Strava segments:

    ArLoopCW1
    ArLoopCW2
    ArLoopCW3
    ArLoopCW4
    ArLoopCW5
    ArLoopCW6
    ArLoopCW7
    ArLoopCW8

For a counterclockwise loop, collect these Strava segments:

    ArLoopCCW1
    ArLoopCCW2
    ArLoopCCW3
    ArLoopCCW4
    ArLoopCCW5
    ArLoopCCW6
    ArLoopCCW7
    ArLoopCCW8

Note that many of the segments have been flagged as hazardous in Strava by people wishing to protect their KOMs, I assume. If you don’t see a segment you expect on your ride, click the button to “show hidden efforts”.

The prizes will be, of course, specially inscribed commemorative boxes of Froot Loops (TM).

I’m going to offer a Rookie of the Year prize as well as a Spirit Award. Will post with official details once we get closer to the start.

I’m planning on running a reindeer game called “Frozémon Hunter”. It’ll have its own thread *.

In Strava is there any way to easily discern between dirt/mountain biking miles and (boriiiiiiiiiiing) road miles? ;) If so, I’d like to set up an award for the most non-paved miles :)

You could probably correlate to which bike people are riding … But I don’t think there is a surface indicator on activities.

You could hashtag like we do with #kidical and #nobafs

YESSSSSH! Who do I have to talk to to get #dirtyride included for FS2018? I’ll start a thread up with the details when the other pointless prizes organizers start doing theirs.

    Fenders? Harrumph!* ;)

I would like to award a reindeer game prize or prizes to the team with the most pictures of the most members of their team TOGETHER on or at an activity. (Excluding the beginning and ending happy hours) The picture must include a bike, a FS 2018 zipper pull ( or whatever we decide the token for 2018 will be) and it must be a selfie! Cause we all know I like selfies. I’ll also start a thread if I can figure that out!

Just announce it (here) and then one of us will make a leaderboard that matches on that tag in the rides. I’ll make a GitHub issue for this, so you can consider it “on the docket”.

Good suggestion by Steve O; not sure why that didn’t leap to mind for me.

I will again do the #sockgame award. There may be some new rules, though… Have to keep you folks on your toes!

Also, the Social Butterfly and Infiltrator awards will be back in 2018! Info forthcoming.

Clarification, please… Can this include gravel? Specifically swampy, muddy gravel? 150 miles of it? (asking for a friend ;))

I will not be doing the tortoise prize this year, someone else will need to take that on (if we are still going to do it? Maybe leslieT could do it, and just pick out the prize she likes ;) )

Instead I will do the “In The Beginning Was the Deed!” challenge, which already has a thread – I need to take the time and start creating strava segments, where they do not already exist. Also I need to decide the actual criteria for the prize – (total marked segments, completing all of them, etc)

I will once again offer a Pointless Prize for Points per Mile. I assume someone can create a leaderboard like last year.

Also, I’d like to be able to do a Pointless Prize for the most number of coffee rides to DIFFERENT coffee places with the following rules:

    1. Starbucks doesn’t count.
    2. Other coffee chains (or food chains that serve coffee) are OK, but once you visit one you’re done, i.e., if you go to Peet’s in Clarendon that counts as a ride but you can’t count going to another Peet’s.
    3. You can visit more than one coffee place on a single ride.
    4. This isn’t Chasing Mailboxes Coffeeneuring Challenge, so no “coffee without walls.”
    5. Ride has to be documented with a photo(s) “proving” you were at said coffee place.

Is there a way to do this “easily”? Use #coffeeride in the Strava ride title and include pic(s)? Could it be tracked other than manually? THANX!

Can I suggest that this would improve Beerneuring as well – I don’t suppose many people really did do multiple Gordon Biersch outlets (for example) but even taking away the temptation would be nice.
