Save the date! The FS Kickoff will be Thursday, Jan 8 at Capital City Brewing Co. in Shirlington, starting around 6 pm, though people may come earlier or later if they like. Cap City has been wonderful to our group, and offers several half price beers and appetizers on Thursdays.

Last year, we announced the team makeups at this event and posted them online that same evening. The happy hour isn’t mandatory, but is a great chance to meet some of your teammates and competitors, make plans (conspire?) and share information and tips. We’ll also present the Gold Nugget award to the person who rides the most miles on Jan 1, 2015.

Please let me know (if you can) whether you plan to join us!

A back story: I tried for a Crystal City venue thinking it might be a little easier for some people to ride to, but I could not find a suitable room for us (i.e., a separate room that doesn’t have five loud TVs blaring sports events). Cap City has ample car and bike parking and is very trail accessible. Bike and car parking info is in the diagram below. In addition, there are about 14 U-racks at the Shirlington Transit Station about a half block away on 31st Street.

For future events, the Highline RXR bar/restaurant is scheduled to open soon in Crystal City, in the former Bailey’s Pub & Grille space.

Thanks for that info. I understand, though, that they are eliminating the separate room that Baileys used to have.

Thanks for setting this up, Kathy! I’m looking forward to it. About the golden nugget… Will that go to the rider who rides the most miles on Jan 1 or the rider with the longest ride on Jan 1? Last year I thought it was to be the former but I was wrong. :p

It’s most miles for the 24 hour day. :)

I hope to be there, and my wife (shall I call her Queen of the Mark on this forum?) may come too.

I’m not positive about hereditary titles, but I think she’d be Lady of the Mark.

How about adding who does a ride with the most other Freezers?

And note of clarification. The Golden Nugget is actually about 5 lbs of lead ~ and if you win it you must carry it for the rest of the contest on your bike.

    :)

in the forum where I first used this handle, I referred to her as QOTM, which had the advantage of abbreviating differently from LOTM.

Sorry the pedicab is staying in the garage until spring.

I will have to work the night of the happy hour, though it’s remotely possible I could arrive sometime after 7:30. I’m hoping Rockford10 will go and represent me (even if she’s not on my team, but on some sucky team).

I’m in too – it’ll be my first forum event since I seem to be unable to make any of the 57,000 coffee clubs despite my best intentions.

    Looking forward to BAFS!

    Priorities!

I will go and represent for my own *fantastic* rainbows and unicorns team.

I’ll be there! And Arlingtonrider, as I’m registration co-czarina, I can help make the nametags. I can even print them, if we like!

Biking from Proteus to Shirlington (yes, I’m a Marylander—had to look up where Shirlington was)? Yeah, those of you unlucky enough to not be on my team are so going down.

Alas, I’ll be out of town that day (with or without a bike… TBD) but I will, in many ways, wish I was there.
