Thanks Dickie for join me on the ride. We did see one forum member at Green Lizard, the Cannons and a couple others at Java Shack, but the FCC crew was gone by the time we got to Swings at 9:05. As we sipped our coffee there, Dickie and I discussed revising the order of the Trifecta ride when I do it again in November. I think we’ll hit Java Shack when it opens at 7 am, roll with the FCCCC when it heads from Java Shack to Swings, and then head out to Green Lizard since we’re not there at the same time as FCCIII anyway. Stay tuned.

Dickie did take a photo to confirm that we were at Swings this morning.

You missed the rollout by seconds, then.

I’m interested in doing this sometime. I think if you skip actually getting coffee at Java Shack (sacrilegious!) Swing’s before 9am will be doable.

Next time we should get a group to go the Dismal-approved route from Green Lizard to Swing’s via Harpers Ferry. :D

It turns out I have Friday morning (October 10) off, so I am thinking of doing this again. I’ll try to join the FCCCC (leaves from Maple and W&OD in Vienna at 6:30) somewhere between Vienna and East Falls Church, ride with them to FCCII at Java Shack, drink a doppio, then head to FCC at Swings, drink a coffee, then head west to Green Lizard in Herndon.

I have completed the FMCC cycle. I have managed to spend a leisurely Friday morning at all 3 of the different coffee clubs as of last Fri. (Yea me! )

Now you need to make all three on the same day.

Isn’t that what a “to-go” cup is for?

Subby and I made the Coffee Club Cannonball Run this past Friday. It was gorgeous with all the snow on the trees. The trail was damp, but not slippery. Here’s how our timing ended up:

0600 We began at the W&OD and Shreve, joined by Hozn.
0650 Arrived at Green Lizard. Shop owner brought out the corral for bikes and let us in a few minutes early. Grabbed a coffee.
0715 Departed the Lizard five minutes later than I would have liked, but it was hard to get back on the bike in the cold. I bonked somewhere after Hozn left us to go to work on the way back towards swings. Subby kept a great pace and I just tried to draft off the back and keep up.
0830 Arrived at Java Shack where Senor Cannon was still waiting to see if we’d make it or not. Downed a large coffee and the best tasting Berry Strudel pie I’ve ever had
0840 Left for Swings trying to beat the 9am rollout with bellies full of pie.
0855 Arrived at Swings to absolutely no fanfare, although turnout seemed light because of the weather.

It’s definitely not a leisurely ride if you want to make all three between 7am and 9am, but it was fun. Maybe it would have been easier if we had been on road bikes and skinny tires instead of cross bikes (and my 40c tires). I’d be up for it again, but I’d want to be more disciplined about the time at the coffee shops.

    I even made it a segment: https://www.strava.com/segments/11502091
and a route (which will tell you estimated time): https://www.strava.com/routes/4216740
