Since we now have 20 teams, it’s pretty hard for everyone to eavesdrop on everyone else’s thread, as fun as that might be.

So if you are going to have a ride or an event that is open to all FS participants, please post it here, too. Or start an event specific thread with a salient title, like Boomer did with his hill ride.

We could also use the calendar, although methinks it is not often looked at.

I’d love to have rides that are open to all FS members — that would increase the chances of finding someone with a compatible riding pace, schedule, interest, location (to some extent), etc. However — do you think people will check here enough that it will work to post rides here? Has this been tried before? How far in advance would you say rides need to be posted in order to get takers, and would another forum be recommended in addition to this one? I’m wary of posting rides too far in advance in the winter, because of weather fluctuations….

Also I’m not sure how often people check here…. Maybe it would be good to post rides to other places additionally. Might Strava have something to offer in this regard? It collects enough data on us that it seems like some might be useful for arranging ride get togethers….

The whole point is to foster the community on the forum, which is why all participants must be forum members (you will find that this is an amazing community to be a part of). That being said, if you want to post a ride open to all, feel free to also post it on your team’s Strava group and advise others they can repost it on their specific team’s group too. :)

I post my rides in the Group Rides thread, because that is what it is for (ad hoc, unsupported rides): http://www.washingtonareabikeforum.com/showthread.php?t=9770
I guess that you could cross reference rides here, too, with a hot link, to maximize market exposure. I post as soon as I feel like leading a ride, which is often only 24-48 hour notice, but I get better responses if I announce 4-6 days in advance. Posting to the Strava group is OK to reach your team, but limited if you want to open it up to anyone else.

I believe this would also be a legitimate use of the main “2016 Freezing Saddles” Strava club. You only need to be an administrator to post an announcement. Anyone should be able to post in the discussion area.

Join Teams Autocorrect (18), Salty Dogs (14), As-Yet Nameless Co-conspirators (13), and Bust Bollards (20 AKA XX) at the Port City Pedals & Pints Short Ride. Sign up on Facebook to let the good folks at Port City know that you’re coming (https://www.facebook.com/events/188005448214168/) and join our little caravan at Best Buns Bread Company, home of Imperial Hump Day Coffee Club and the best Bacon-Cheddar Scones you’ll find south of the Dixie line. Come one, come all for this collusion with enemies, frenemies, and others. Plus, did I mention there was beer?

Meeting at 9am for breakfast, rolling at 10am to Port City. Ride leaves Port City around 11am and due back to brewery around noon. See you all there!

Just came across this. If all of us FS participants sign up and participate, we’ll put DC and environs in the top 10.

Also, I like the Winter Cycling Myths, Busted poster below, published by the Winter Cycling Federation.

Steve-o, last year Bicycle Space set up a breakfast AND a counter, and a certain Women & Bicycles member put together a women and bicycles IWBTWD happy hour last year (oh, it was me).

I’m even setting up my own happy hour this year! I love International Bike to Work Day.

Anyone up for a mid-winter cycling break in Crete? I’m considering heading for Agia Galini the last week of February to get in my February and March century rides.

Tease. So wish I could join you. Please take lots of pictures of sun and sand and blue waters and clear roads and ….. Oh never mind. That would just be torturous!

How would I post anything to that strava club? All I can see that it does is to show the data on everyone’s rides.

I’m getting very frustrated about this. I have been directed to THIS thread as a place to post rides, but there is not a single ride posted here. I’m not talking about big event rides – I’m talking about a place to post a ride for tomorrow, or this afternoon. A place to say something like

“Hey it looks like it’s gonna be nice out this weekend. Anyone wanna join me for a ride starting at 2 pm at the intersection of the Custis & W&OD trails?”

Is this thread that place? Because it sure doesn’t look like it to me.
Boomer linked to another thread, but the title of that thread is about a specific ride that already happened – so I’m thinking that’s not a good idea either.
I was gonna start a new thread, but was redirected here. But I’m sure nobody’s looking for rides here (are they?) and I can’t see a way to pay anything to the strava club.

You have to click on “Discussion” on Strava whilst you are in the group. It’s stuck in kinda a funky area, but see the attached screen cap with arrows.

Post a note in your team’s forum topic or start a discussion in your team’s Strava club or the FS 2016 Strava club. (Search Strava’s help if you can’t find the “start a discussion” button/link.)
