Originally inspired by jrenaut at the end of FS14, the FSLNHPP has now become a tradition. The truly elite badasses gather down on Hains Point and ride around in circles until just before midnight. They then stop their GPS devices and drink a toast to another year of Freezing Saddles.

Last year even the ordinary badasses came out, because it was on a Friday night. This year I expect only us elite ones will be there for the final toast, since it’s on a Sunday night. And if, like me, you also plan to ride the VASA ride earlier in the day, you will rack up a lot of miles for your team.

In a Ferris Bueller moment, W&W and Steve O will discover that riding a bike backwards doesn’t erase HP laps from ol’ Judd Lumberjack.

What about riding HP in opposite direction? I tried one lap on Saturday to reduce headwind and don’t think I got credit for the lap. Also, that lap a motorcade of cars decided to travel through HP and were not happy with me riding toward them, even though many runners also were.

You only get credit for a lap by completing the “Gate to Gate” segment.

It was gate to gate, just opposite direction :)

    Yeah, that doesn’t count.

Thanks for the confirmation. Luckily I only did one lap and it was kind of worth having a partial break from the northwest wind.

That’s beyond just being bad form; it’s sacrilege. No one should ride HP laps backwards to escape the wind during the windter season.

    NO ONE.

Well, I did feel guilty doing it so I did an extra 5 laps after in the right direction with a very strong headwind for penance.

Hey all, this is just three days away.
So far the only person who has stepped up to provide support is komorebi.
In past years people have baked cookies or brownies or brought other snacks to share with the other riders.
As mentioned in an earlier post, if you know someone who is not riding (friend, spouse, etc.) who is willing to be head cheerleader and hang out at the social stop, bribe them to come.
Anything you can do to add to the festivities is welcome–either as a team or as an individual.

I’ll see you all down there!

    Oh, and jousting.

I’ve infiltrated a few events as a filthy newbie who was late to all this BAFS s̶i̶l̶l̶i̶n̶e̶s̶s̶ majestic pageantry. I’m down to drive and support. Plus Judd is a champion of the people and I owe him pie. Hit me up with snack and drink requests and I’ll see what I can do.

I will be there with a car and some goodies and support …recovering from the VASA ride and maybe doing one lap! Oh and jousting. I’ll bring a first aid kit, a flag to wave and some chain mail. Probably won’t stay too late.

I will be there, driving my car down with bike, so I can offer support when I am not riding.

I am a ride leader for the Half Metric Vasa Ride, if anyone wants to be in my group; ride out at 9:30ish.

I will be bringing some…DOUGHNUTS!! What else???

I may have some other snacky stuff, a possibility of prohibited beverages and a corkscrew.

I’ve got a choir practice until 9:30, but plan on coming after stopping by the apartment to change. (I need to uphold my “No-Lycra-in-church-unless-it’s-an-emergency” policy.) That should get me there with plenty of time to join in this nonsense.

    Ha! Technology-forced compliance!
