Registration is now officially open for Freezing Saddles 2022. The registration form is at this link, and the deadline for submitting it is December 24 at 11:59:59 pm. As usual (and unavoidably), the process is a little complicated, especially for newbies. However, you’ve got two options for figuring it all out.

    1. The registration form itself takes you step by step through what you need to do, if you read all of it. This list is also repeated on the “Success” page you get to after registering, and in the e-mail you will get confirming your registration. (Really, we are quite thorough in explaining it all!)
    2. Below is a list you can refer to, with a link for each step.
    3. After using one of the two methods shown above, check to see whether you show up on this page. If you do not, you skipped either step 6 or step 7. Please try again!

    The list is as follows:

    1. Fill in the registration form.
    2. Click on the link in the confirmation e-mail you will receive, giving us permission to send you e-mails. This e-mail may go to your Promotions, Social, junk, or spam folder, so please check there if it does not arrive. If you do not find it anywhere, you will need to send a private message to cvcalhoun, so that she can add you manually and your registration does not get canceled.
    3. Register for the Washington Area Bike Forum.
    4. Make at least one post on the Washington Area Bike Forum. if you have nothing in particular you want to say or respond to, you can use this thread to make a post introducing yourself.
    5. Register for Strava.
    6. Join the Freezing Saddles 2022 Strava club.
    7. Authorize Freezing Saddles to read your Strava miles. (Very very important! Not doing this is the most common reason people don’t show up on the leaderboard!)
    8. Watch the Washington Area Bike Forum in early January for team assignments.

Now please check to see whether you show up on this page. If you do not, you skipped either step 6 or step 7. Please try again!

As in past years, if you want to be a Friend of BAFS (formerly known as Slacker) but not on a team this year, please do not register. Just do steps 6 and 7, above. If you do those things, once teams are chosen, you will automatically show up as a Friend of BAFS.

    I’m registered.

A note – I had to go back and authorize Strava a second time. The first time I tried, a page popped up where it both said that I successfully registered AND gave me an Uh oh, something went wrong message. When I went to go check https://freezingsaddles.org/people/ I did not show up there yet so I repeated the Strava authorization and it worked that time.

I went back to the error page. What probably happened is I had to register for the Strava club first. I did it in opposite order, as proscribed above. Because the error page said this:

“Uh-oh, something went wrong. So you are a Strava athlete, we get that. Unfortunately, one of these two things is true:
    1. you did not give Strava permission for us to “View your complete Strava profile”. Without that, we can’t see what clubs you belong to.
    2. you are not registered with any of the configured Freezing Saddles team clubs; if that is the case, You need to join a competition team Strava club. Or maybe the app just needs to be updated to know about the Strava teams. Don’t worry, your rides will count but they won’t be on any leaderboards until you have joined one of the competition teams.

So it implies that the process should be first 7, then 6.

Thank you to Carol and all of the volunteers helping to set this up!
