We talk so much about the Arlington side of the Key Bridge (and Arlington is – very slowly – working towards improvements there), but yes, the DC side is a mess. Have you looked at goDCgo to see whether there’s a vision for that area?
Just to make this even worse (if possible), the eastbound sidewalk coming off the bridge on M Street now has a massive sign in the middle of it, surrounded by a million orange barrels. Whitehurst a much safer alternative at this point.
I think they fixed it this Saturday by installing a big scrolling text trailer at the end of the sidewalk to tell you that 30-something Street was closed. It was awesome having to dismount and try to waddle over the curb and into traffic instead of using the curb-cut and crosswalk.
