You haven’t been riding?!
(p.s. it’s blank)

Really? Shows up for me. I tried attaching it as well, maybe the forum software doesn’t like inlined images?

Works for me. Mayhaps imageshack.us is blocked on Certifried’s network.

I don’t post much of my training or daily commutes, so these are just from 59 selected rides (4022 miles).
That ride to southern MD? It takes oxon hill and livingston roads south from the beltway? Do you ride that on your own, or was it part of organized rides? And if on your own, ever done it during standard commuter hours (between 6 and 8 in the am and pm)? Opinion on traffic/safety?
I don’t mean to interrogate (ok, yes I do, but not in a bad way), this is the part of my imaginary future commute that i can’t decide if it’s safe to attempt. The first mile or so of Oxon Hill immediately south of the belway, and most of Livingston east of 210 have seemed more heavily trafficked than I like for such narrow roads when I have diverted through them (in a car) on my way to/from work. I can’t decide if I’m being too wimpy about traffic and should just do it, or if my stubborn streak is trying to talk me into something I shouldn’t even consider.
I know PG county (or whoever designates these things) calls them bike-friendly routes, but I’m pretty sure the only requirement for that is that they head north-south parallel to 210, and are not 210. They’re probably fine for the occasional mid-day ride or for a group, but I need safe for a single cyclist commuter.

ooh, very probably. I didn’t see anything at all, so just figured he had forgot to paste it or something. I see the attachment now. Thanks! I absolutely am entranced by all these maps, I’m a very visual person. I especially like the ones where the map is just bleeding red all over. I’m already planning some future rides over different parts of the DC area so my map is redder.

The southern Maryland trips were actually done as part of the Total200 route. One was done with the large group and the other was done self-supported with 3 others. As I remember, there is quite a bit of shoulder on the faster roads, although there was plenty of debris to dodge. At the larger intersections and merges things could get a little dicey.

That’s awesome. I’ve been tracking my rides pretty religiously on Strava since May — I wonder if they can automatically create a tracking map from all those rides. I’m going to check!

There were 2 rides that had straight lines like that. One into arlington, the other out west.

ParticipantOk, since I can’t compete on coverage, here’s my map anew with 100% more pointless animation!
