Starting Wednesday September 12th, paving on the Four Mile Run Trail will begin on the section parallel to Arlington Mill Drive.

I don’t have details at this point on how long the work will take. As for detours, the road is fairly low traffic so getting around it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Tim. They had a detour set uo around the paving area when I came home this evening, and it looks like it will be there for at least another day. The trucks and equipment are still on site.

At least this time the detour signs were well ahead of the work zones and were a crossings with lights to making it a little easier. Now why multiple county trucks had to block the 4MRT around milemaker 4.5 in Barcroft while the workers were looking at and appartently marking trees totally escapes me. Four trucks, two of which were pulling chippers. While I appreciate the county looking at trees that might need to be removed for safely, the constant use of the MUPs by these trucks during prime morning commuting hours can be annoying and occasionally dangerous. Of course, there probably aren’t too many bike commutes on 4MRT compared with the paralel W&OD, but there is never any advance notice, and all of a sudden a truck is driving right at you, occasionally on a blind curve.

    From an email:

“FYI: Paving efforts on the Four Mile Run Trail, along Arlington Mill Drive are expected to be completed by the end of the day today 9/14/12. Additional paving will occur Monday near the Canine Community Area.

*Note: We just learned today that a Fiber Optic contractor for traffic control started work and were utilizing various portions of the Custis trail. They will proceed again Monday. They are expected to continue for a few days. Fortunately, they are working at non-peak hours. More details will be provided as they become available.”

I get the impression they widened much of the trail and it’s nice an smooth. And they finished the last 100 feet or so near Walter Reed Dr on Monday! Yea! :D :D :D
