In just 15 simple steps, you too can avoid Glebe Road.
As long as you print it out and just tape it to your handlebars you should be fine.

I’m taping it to the front of my helmet.

Well some people claimed Glebe Rd is Certain Death, and this route is actually much simpler than the county’s inane detour.
I just looked at the official detour for the first time. I’ve been doing it wrong apparently. Way too easy to just cross under Glebe instead of following the official route. It’s only half certain death.

Does anyone know how we go about getting the lights fixed on the baseball field side of the pedestrian bridge? There are a lot of lights out, but this one in particular is problematic. If you’re heading west bound on the detour, you have a fairly sharp right turn onto the pedestrian bridge and the light at that corner is out, effectively making it a blind corner at night. The trail is sparsely populated at night now that it’s cold, but if we get some nice weather, who knows.
The light pole in question doesn’t seem to have one of those ID tags on it.It has some weathered ‘caution tape’ where I would expect the ID tag to be.

I suggest contacting Alexandria’s complete streets coordinator, Ray Hayhurst, next week – the folks at 703.746.HELP can connect you. If anyone can prioritize it, he should be able to. Hopefully these are City-maintained, and not Dominion Virginia Power, over whom Ray likely has less influence.

ParticipantI ran into (not literally) a neighbor last night. She is a casual cyclist until…. She was riding this detour in November and broke her finger. She was at the blue arrow in the outside lane. Two gents were riding toward her in the other lane. According to her, they were taking the curve aggressively and the one in the back was trying to keep up. Her and his handlebars hit one another, and her finger got caught in the middle. She declined a trip to the hospital but later learned that her finger was broken.
Where can I report this? I want it in the data.

Like you want to file the crash with the police? Try this: https://police.arlingtonva.us/online-police-reporting-system/ or give them a call as listed on the site.

ParticipantUpdate on this! Looks like the the next phase of closures are happening at the end of the month.

Closure of Four Mile Run Trail below S. Eads St. Starting February 27th
Construction on the Four Mile Run Restoration project is proceeding well. The southern portion of the trail, below S. Eads Street, was kept open as long as possible during construction as a connection to S. Eads St. This section will be closed starting on February 27, 2017, for no longer than 3 months. View the trail detour map.

Am I the only person who thinks of that as the eastern portion of the trail, not southern?
No. I now think of the detour in Four Mile Run Park as the southern portion of the trail.

Aw, man, looks like I need to refilm part of my Surge 13 video (I was using Eads St onto 4MR for a particular route). Thanks for the heads up, though.

ParticipantI want to thank everyone for making me aware of the detour. Today was the first time that I was there since the fall and I hadn’t ridden on their since the trail by the sewage treatment plant opened I think decades ago.

ParticipantMaybe you should try. I don’t ride this very often, but once again there is exactly one sign, Spanish only. This is starting to look very deliberate (and still racially condescending).

I can assure you that it is not either of those things. I’ll poke at it some more.

ParticipantMore signs are being printed and will be posted. Who had you originally reported it to?

Thanks. Maybe we should set up some of those wildlife cameras to catch whoever keeps removing only the English signs.
