Found a nice glove around 8:00am on Wednesday, November 30, south side sidewalk on Memorial Bridge. Right-hand glove, stretchy black with neon yellow finger accents. Message me to claim.
Is there an established etiquette on found items on a trail? Typically if I see something that looks recently dropped I let it be or put it in a more prominent place assuming the owner will come looking for it.

I think it depends on what it is. My personal take is if it has personal stuff like credit cards, cell phones or IDs, I’ll keep it and try to contact the owners via posting everywhere known to man online/google searching for them, or just mailing them their stuff back if they have an ID included or address card. Or I get it to the nearest NPS or state park facility if I found it on their land. I will not steal anyone’s stuff or use their credit cards, but the next person to find it might so I feel like it’s better to get it off the trail.
Otherwise if there is nothing financially valuable I do the same thing you do and just put the item in a more visible place.

On the ride home, I followed this advice and placed the glove on the railing of one of the wooden “bridges” over the joints in the sidewalk. Tried to put it where it would be seen but wouldn’t blow away (which is why I picked it up in the first place). It was gone this morning, hopefully reunited with its rightful owner and not floating down the Potomac.

It was a bit windy before the rain last night. I hope it was reunited or that LeprosyStudyGroup didn’t bike by it. He’s a semi-pro glove collector.

ParticipantWhen I was in Reykjavik earlier this year I came across a metal gate in a doorway on the main street that was something like the “Lovelorn glove station” where people stuck lost singles or pairs of gloves on the gate spikes in hopes of eventual reunion. It brought a tear to my eye. It’s close to the Icelandic Phallological Museum if anybody wants to visit and make a day of it.

ParticipantHi VA2DC,
You can easily register found item in online lost and found platform like http://www.missingx.com/. It’s helpful for item or property owner to find their item and get back.

I wasn’t aware of this platform. Has anyone had any luck with it? It claims 1.4+ million items found.
