lordofthemark
ParticipantMy middle name is Mark. I grew up on quiet Webster Avenue in Brooklyn. In the 1970s some of our evenings at home were dominated by Masterpiece Theater series on PBS about Tudor England (The Six Wives of Henry the VIIIth, Elizabeth R) in which every other characters was Earl of This, Lord of That. Also about this time I was reading the Lord of the Rings for the first time, and telling my parents all about it. My father, who was funny and quirky, decided to give me an aristocratic title/nickname – I am not sure which of us came up with Lord of the Mark of Webster.
I used Lord of the Mark as a handle on a gaming forum, where it perhaps was a little less eye catching than on a biking forum.

ParticipantI changed my name on the forum from my last name+ first and middle initial (which was a fairly unpronounceable mish-mash followed by a fake kiss sound) to a childish nickname. There are always too many Mike’s everywhere, but not too many Mikeys.

At first, I used to think your username meant you worked/lived at the Mark Center with the aristocratic title added for fun!

This is still the image this conjures up in my head, even though I know from your forum posts that you work at DoT in DC and just recently moved to Alexandria.

ParticipantI wanted something new and different for a login a few years ago when I signed up for this and a few other sites. As I am Coocoo for Cocoa Puffs, er, crazy for cycling, it was not a stretch to come up with cyclingfool. Sadly, it’s already taken on about half the sites I go to sign up for now using this screen name, so I wasn’t original enough.

I had to look her up. I wish.

ParticipantSuper huge James Garner fan.
OK, no. When I went to make my first purchase on eBay many years ago, eBay rejected by then-screen name as being too close to my actual name. eBay suggested I take the name of a local park (Rockford Park in Wilmington, Delaware), a number and a color. I’ve been Rockford10Green ever since. It’s shortened here and on other web sites to Rockford10. I’m Rockford11 on Twitter only because I lost that password and it wouldn’t let me reset it. Dumb twitter.

ParticipantI have used hand and power tools to make a living since I have been making a living. Over the years I figured out how to get other people to use the tools while I taught, watched and reached in now and the but fixing what does not work and making what is needed from what is on hand has been my vocation and avocation
Vicegrip locking pliers are the tool you use when the “right way” is no longer an option. Rusty bolt heads, busted off studs and the like call for the basic methods offered up by this handy hand tool
Such a standard word for an online moniker makes it harder to google my internet ramblings too.

Guestacl are my initials.
Boring. I think I’ll change it. I’ve always been partial to the nickname I was given by some greek coworkers years ago; Amalitza (spelling questionable), the nickname/diminutive for Amalia, the first Greek queen, and their Greekified version of my real name (Amy). So, with some liberal interpretation of meaning:), “little queen” or maybe “dear/darling queen”.

ParticipantMine is pretty straight forward, although I came up with it when I actually lived in DC and was riding a motorcycle in addition to a bicycle. Now I live in Arlington and got rid of the motorcycle, but I think the name still works well enough to keep it.
