And on a bakfiets, you can’t just take the wheel off and replace the tube. You have to patch it.
Why is that? What happens when you need to replace the tire because the tread is worn?

ParticipantDid you check the valve stem, and the area where the rubber meets the metal/plastic part of the valve? I’ve been stumped before not finding a hole because I hadn’t submerged the valve stem. Once I did this I found it, and just replaced the entire tube. This may also explain why the sealant didnt’ work.

The connections between the hub and the fork are complicated. If you have a major issue, you take it to a bike shop.
The good news is we got a patch kit from FreshBikes that has “super-glue-like” adhesive, so the patch didn’t move. It’s held air for 24 hours, so fingers crossed all is fixed. I don’t know whether the sealant is back in the tube or not.
Next issue: attaching the bobike mini adapter to the bench, so Ryder can sit beside his sister, and we can reclaim the cargo space from the car seat.

ParticipantYea, and what happens when the dog chews your front stem off? How do you patch that rather than replace the tube?

Why would you have a dog?

Patch kit.

ParticipantI’m envisioning that you can’t take the front wheel off easily, so to patch it you leave the wheel attached and just unseat the tire to get at the tube?
Pictures would be great!

Sorry, I meant front valve stem!
Makes more sense, but it still assumes a dog with access to chew the thing off. As Dikembe would say “not in my house”.

ParticipantIf you made another post that just said “As Dikembe would say “not in my house”.” I would like that one too.

ParticipantI’m thinking the BikeArlington Forum should form a advisory committee with regular meetings to, well, advise.
How about meeting on Thursday the 19th in the early evening? Not clear on the venue yet.
