Today, after once again almost getting flattened by a car that turned left on 15th from Penn during the bike lane’s light cycle, it occurred to me that we really need a red left arrow at that light.

As much as it’s my nature to ascribe malice to everyone, the car that turned in front of me today was super-hesitant about turning. The lightbulb finally went off for me. Cars that run that light are genuinely confused regarding whether or not their turn has come yet. The fact that the green light is bicycle shaped may make them think they just have to yield (hah!) to bikes.

Is there someone at WABA or DDOT to contact with this suggestion? My usual approach, futilely shaking my fist like an old man on his porch, probably doesn’t convey all of the necessary information.

I have a less charitable outlook about those idiots who try to kill me at that intersection every week or two, but I agree that a better signal would be a big improvement.
