This is not the only example of this sort of thing in Arlington, but it does make one wonder about the Mobius Streets

That is unusual in Arlington only in the sense that they actually showed the names of both streets. As far as I can make out, the goal of Virginia sign-makers is to ensure that no one not born in Virginia can ever drive in Virginia. This includes changing the name of the street every few blocks (and not putting up signs at all saying what the current name is) and having six variants of Glebe Road.

Au contraire! Here is a fine example of signage clearly delineating the change from 20th St. to 20th Rd along this completely straight street. What could possibly be more helpful?

I’m just recalling the instance in which I got lost, and asked six different people in Arlington where Chain Bridge Road was. All six of them looked blank. Apparently although the map says Chain Bridge Road and the directions said Chain Bridge Road, no one in Northern Virginia knows it as anything other than Route 123.
I finally stumbled onto Chain Bridge Road. At that point, I figured I was home free–all I needed to do was to look for the address I needed. I headed in that direction. Suddenly, I was on Dolly Madison Boulevard. I figured I had missed some turn. I went back to where I had last seen Chain Bridge Road. Nope, absolutely none of the directions I could possibly have gone from there–short of going back the way I came–was Chain Bridge Road.
I finally found a kindly soul who told me that if I continued on Dolly Madison Boulevard, it would become Chain Bridge Road again. But since then, I don’t venture into Virginia without GPS.

ParticipantNow I know the real reason for the 25 MPH speed limit in Falls Church – so they can chase down violators by bike.

ParticipantSeen at the corner of R and 15th. Churches in DC have to be on their sign game.

ParticipantOn my rides, I have found a few signs worthy of sharing!
Here’s a Michigan entry. They refurbish hotrods.

It would be nice if I could comment on each picture, but I can’t figure that out. But here’s a bit of an explanation for each photo:
1. How often do you see signs warning you of steep climbs?
2. Payback the following day for going up that brutal climb from photo 1.
3. These are homes out in the middle of the frikken desert with nothing but dirt and cactus around.
4. An awesome biker bar (but I’m sure we would not be accepted).February 4, 2018 at 5:58 am #1083513cvcalhoun
ParticipantIt’s a bench (by Friendship Heights station). With a “No Loitering” sign. Tell me, exactly what do you do on a bench that does NOT constitute loitering?

Frequently parked in ShirlingtonThat’s an actual store/workshop out in Sperryville VA, which we pass on the way to SNP (via Thornton Gap) all the time, and it makes us laugh. They’ve been written about by Southern Living magazine and everything.

ParticipantSaw this while biking around the hills around San Francisco. I’d say pretty appropriate!
