ParticipantLots of patches of frosty ice on the CCT this morning, especially the bridges. Most were not slippery, with the exception of the composite boards on the bridge right after the Dalecarlia Tunnel. Bonus: tires riding over these patches made a sizzling bacon sound.

ParticipantYeah, that was ice between Shreve and Railroad Ave. in Falls Church. After slipping out and careering, I walked to Shreve and took the roads. It looked like Fairfax County salted the roads, so I didn’t have any problems once I got off the trail.

How many bad words did you yell when that happened? I’m glad our children weren’t there to hear it.

ParticipantThe wooden boardwalk just north of old town/south of the marina is a sheet of ice as of 8 am. Thanks to the runner who warned me, even though I learned the hard way it was not just a “take it slowly” situation.

ParticipantNo problems on the Custis between cherrydale and rosslyn, the tr connector, tr bridge. There was a little visible frost on some parts of the Custis, but on the sides.

Citizens bridge was hilariously slippery. I thought I would ride it [slowly] and got about a third of the way and decided that was completely ludicrous. Of course I slipped and fell as soon as I stepped off the bike; it was just as hard to walk [in cycling boots] as ride. Studded tires would have been the smart choice this AM.
GB was kind enough to point this out while I and two other cyclists skated our way across the bridge.
If I remember correct, he went “(smug face) stuuddddssss!”

ParticipantI slipped while walking the dog this morning. That sealed the deal on studs for the ride in. #1morereasonhavingadogishelpful

But did the dog slip?
There was this ridiculous poodle that tried to chase me on an icy WOD once. It was hilarious, though I bet not for the owner, who looked terrified as she struggled to control both dog and her traction.

ParticipantPrince George’s trials were clear this morning except for the untreated wood bridges, one of which I hit at full speed daydream but luckily didn’t wipe.

Shockingly, none. At the time the sliding seemed almost peaceful. Like when things go in slow motion before the zombies eat you. I did yell at a car on Idylwood; that got a little salty.

ParticipantI took roads until the spiral of death, and only saw smidgens of snow/frost on the edges of the Custis, and a little bit of something on the Trollheim, but actually I thought studs were unnecessary, and I saw no other riders on them. That said, I still rode with them! (I made the call last night, and it’s a little annoying to change bikes in the AM once I have one ready with Moose Mitts, lights, etc.)

#offtopic Yeah, that one’s funny, but not terribly accessible when I need it! Yesterday someone told me about the WSJ Buzzword generator. Linky. We were using them on a conference call and the other party didn’t realize we just started spouting buzzwords. “Looking forward to 2014, alignment will be key to our ability to piggyback the visibility horizontally.” Heh. Lolz.

ParticipantMe too. I bit the dust twice. Once walking my bike on the bridge you referred to and once riding on the bridge just to the south. Saw plenty of smears in the snow/ice where others had fallen. https://rootchopper.wordpress.com/2015/02/10/i-shoulda-know-better/

This I will have to remember as a marketing point. Lets see ~ “This is Norah, a bull terrier mutt seeking her forever home. She has high traction while seeking out locations where you will fall on your ass.”
