Is Milltown road paved the whole way? Why don’t you just take that? Where did they come up with “Featherbed Ln” anyway?! What a weird name. Also, couldn’t you go west on Old Wheatland Rd and then just head up 287?

I haven’t been exactly where you are, but I did accidentally discover a gravel road in that area between Brunswick and Lovettsville last year. That one was not in good shape.

I rode from Waterford to Lovettsville on the 2010 Reston Century route and Lovettsville to Waterford on the 2011 Reston Century. Both took Main St (SR 662) out of Waterford, then bear left onto Old Wheatland Rd (SR 698) to cross the stream and then take the first right on Milltown Rd (SR 681) all the way to Lovettsville. Unless something has changed, it’s all paved.

that sounds excellent- this short bit of dirt road is really loose and not hard packed enough for a road bike-thanks for alternate route!!

I mapped a route from leesburg to harpers ferry with Google and they suggested following Loyalty Rd out of Waterford and then Featherbed Lan- but yeah, funny name as it is really bumpy and I had a touring bike. Looks like Old Wheatland is my road. THANKS

What consularider said. Main, Old Wheatland, Milltown. Mind the stop signs & village speed limit in Waterford. Not Loyalty – the pavement on Loyalty has been a mess for years, I only ride it to get to some hill climb suffering on Taylorstown & Stumptown.

At least some parts of Loyalty Rd. were recently paved. Not the whole thing, but it’s not as horrible as it was. I rode it a couple of weeks ago.
