A few of the places I like to stop while I am riding on the W&OD:
Doener Bistro in Leesburg,
Moms Apple Pie in Leesburg,
Haute Dawgs and Fries in Purcellville,
The Pure Pasty Co in Vienna,
Best Buns in Shirlington,
Mike’s Deli at Lazy Sundae in Falls Church,
Little City Gourmet in East Falls Church,
Second for Carolina Brothers in Ashburn,
Magnolias at the Mill in Purcellville (summer on the patio!),
and just about any restaurant in Shirlington (Cap City, Guapos, Bus Boys and Poets, etc) for the ride after the ride!December 9, 2013 at 7:32 pm #988036Greenbelt
ParticipantSaturday only — beer tastings and usually a food truck along the Met Branch trail in DC at Chocolate City brewery

ParticipantMy family likes Good Stuff Eatery in Crystal City, right off the MVT. We had brunch there after the Arlington Fun Ride, and I’m still dreaming of the burger I got with bacon and a gooey fried egg on top. My mouth waters just thinking about it! They also have a nice house ale (you can just see some in the upper left corner of the pic).

ParticipantFYI – Hamburger Hamlet is closing this week, if it hasn’t already. The parent company in California went bankrupt earlier in the year. The Bethesda location had its equipment liquidated at auction. Now the Crystal City location will be cleaned out. The online auction closes on Thur. All items must be removed by next Sun.
Du-par’s, another California restaurant co., wanted to take over the space and convert it into a 24-hr diner, but the deal didn’t go through. I guess someone can always try to start up a new restaurant in that space, 24-hrs. or not. Or maybe the landlord has other plans. In any case, I hope it doesn’t remain empty for too long. If a new restaurant does move in, they should be a little more modern than Hamburger Hamlet. That might have been an exciting concept in 1950’s Los Angeles, but not really in Arlington VA of 2013. I’d suggest that they add a street-side entrance. Or at least update that stodgy facade. “Hamlet Bar & Restaurant” in plain letters, with a view of the back of some booths? Not really a way to attract passersby. They looked busy at happy hours, but there never seemed to be many people at other times.
I don’t think too many cyclists stopped there, even though it’s close to the MVT connector. They did host some of the post-race parties for the 5K races in Crystal City.
NOTE: Apparently that location was formerly Amelia’s Restaurant, named after Amelia Earhart. Did anyone ever dine there when it was called Amelia’s Restaurant? When did it close and when did Hamburger Hamlet move in?
This is the only webpage I found:

ParticipantI was on the B&A trail yesterday and saw 2 places towards the southern end of the trail that really made me wish I had not left my wallet in the car—Navy Bagel at Arnold Station and Sofie’s Crepes at Severna Park. Next time, a Nutella crepe will be mine!

ParticipantSeconding everything Greenbelt said—especially Chocolate City and Shortcake—but a few more of my favorites:
—Fishnet, just off the Berwyn Trolly Trail; not just good fish and the best fries in the area, but now $3 microbrews on weekday evenings.
—Until recently, the Maryland Dairy was right off the Paint Branch trail—ice cream that couldn’t be beat, if you could deal with the weird hours—but they’re moving it up the hill from the trail a ways to the UMD student union. Still worth the trek just off-trail, and the Maryland Food Co-Op in the union basement serves 75¢ cups of Zeke’s.
—Island Style Ice Cream in Mt. Ranier is just off the standard commuter path between the Anacostia Tributary Trails and the Met Branch; grape nut, guava, stout, and soursop ice creams, like you’d find in Jamaica.
I’m assuming, of course, that we’re keeping this local, and leaving off our favorite stops along the C&O/GAP trail—that’s a thread unto itself!

ParticipantI passed this place for the first time today but didn’t have time to stop in. Why didn’t anyone tell me there is an old fashioned frozen custard place just a block away from the WO&D in Vienna!!!!
Gets good reviews too.

Now you’ve gone and done it, a pasty followed by frozen custard. Just the thing on the return trip from Purcellville.
