So, there are no wheel cutouts on either side of the double yellow line to facilitate “emergency” vehicle travel? I think you’ll need distance calibration on the downhill side of the speed hump to measure your airborne distance. ;)

Seems like it would have been a much better idea to greatly narrow the road and put in a physically segreagated biking trail if the speeding is that bad.

You wouldn’t want to lose all that wonderful free on street parking just to protect a few effete snobs on bikes would you? ;)

The placement is perfect for bicycles. The speed that I hit them at is perfect to give me a smooth landing on the far side of the hump. Getting air on a fixie is interesting.

Basically having all these obstacles and flashing lights and all makes it so that bicycles travel at about the same speed as cars on the way down the hill. I’ve noticed that people have been better about “stopping” at the cross streets when entering or crossing West Street. I think there have been quite a few problems and close calls and people who drive in that area regularly are being a bit more cautious. The only close calls I’ve had recently (the last 6 months ) have been with wildlife (deer, foxes, squirrels, dogs, etc).

So far, these speed humps seem to be doing a good thing for the cars going up the hill. I still get people who drive fairly close, but they’re moving a little closer to the speed limit. It is much more difficult for people to drive up the hill at twice the posted speed limit.

This is a welcome addition. I always get tailgated when I drive the speed limit on this street. Yeah, I’m that guy. At least in my neighborhood.

Sorry. Usually I try to leave a little room between my front wheel and your bumper. ;)
