Oh yeah, I move to Ukraine and they finally get around to repaving some of my neighborhood trails. 😡 Well maybe Gina and the Steves will get some enjoyment out of the improvements. To bad they are skipping the stretch just west of Patrick Henry on the 4MRT that is so bumpy from tree roots. much worse shape than Bluemont Park.

ParticipantI’ve always found that name interesting as well as the section in Bemjamin Bannaker Park since neither actually connects to the Custis Trail which has its milepost 0 at the I-66 underpass (formerly of eternal darkness).

ParticipantSince the county is trying to decide how to spend end of year surplus funds, is there a way to request some of the money be allocated to finish repaving the Custis??

Or maybe they can stealth-plow the Arlington segment of MVT this winter without NPS noticing…I bet that’d still leave room in their $22M for other initiatives!

Depending on how determined NPS is, even the possibility could be a money making opportunity. “Nice ice ruts you have there, it’d be a shame if something happened to them…”

To the W&OD. There’s always plenty of lingering snow and ice there, even after they “plow.”

The “Trail/Road closed signs” will replace the dangerous bollards and collars I hope.

The Custis Trail officially ends (if I remember correctly from discussion with staff) at the Lee Highway crossing past EFC metro. The Custis and W&OD run contiguously between that point and the split east of Patrick Henry Dr. I think the Custis must sit on top of the W&OD, since Arlington is allowed to plow it. The milepost 0 sign has always been a mystery, since it’s not even at the juncture with the W&OD.
So…the Custis Spurt does, in fact, connect to the Custis Trail at the overpass by Madison Manor Park. There is even a sign along there that says “Custis Trail”
