This Google Street View shows that it had bike lane marking before. As for “Ride with traffic” sign, it means “It’s okay to ride with traffic” from what I understand from this VDOT PDF file. I think it’s there because the lane is not marked clearly, and the sidewalk is too narrow, blocked, or under construction(or will be). The sign would stay up until they finish marking the lane.

It’s a still-wrapping-up construction project so the signage is messed up and confusing. The bike lane used to end half way down this block. Part of the construction was to move the curb allowing the lane to extend all the way to Wakefield.

It IS a bike lane! (and when that ugly blue building gets knocked down it will become a two-way protected bike lane)

Hmm, I interpreted the “Ride with Traffic” sign to mean “Do not ride against traffic” as in “Don’t salmon.” The bike lane sign designates that lane as a bike lane, although it would help a lot to have pavement markings which are what cyclists/drivers expect, especially when the rest of Fairfax Drive’s bike lanes have pavement markings.

A “Don’t Salmon” sign would have to be facing the other way to reach the intended audience…
