Exposure Diablo — Battery Question

Sorry I don’t have any experience with this light but that doesn’t sound right. Did you contact the manufacturer / check the website for FAQ’s?

The Diablo is a good looking light, my Mini-Newt light is clunky, not color coordinated and makes my bikes look frumpy. (shallow much?)

It could just be a fluke… Perhaps it didn’t get a full charge before Thursday? My 1st gen Diablo is almost 4 years old.

I have a spare piggy-back battery you can use to make sure it doesn’t strand you while you diagnose the problem. It just plugs into the back of the Diablo and charges it while you ride and use it.

I’d contact Exposure USA. Their customer service has been awesome. I have a cateye you can use in the meantime if you need.

I experienced my light issue last week as well. I have been abusing my light and it gave up on me. My light would go OFF when I hit a bump and back ON when I hit the next bump. Other cyclists thought I was a crazy cyclist because I would pass them when I have light and fall back behind them when my light was off.

I can’t wait to receive a new one.

I haven’t had any problems with my Diablo but I have a shorter commute and usually charge it each night. I also don’t run it on high very much. If it would help, I’d be glad to try to duplicate what you do and see how long it takes for it to get to red on a full charge. Do you usually use it in high the whole time?

I’m pretty ignorant about batteries, but I know that with some of the old rechargables that I used in big dive lights, it was recommended that you run them almost all the way down occasionally (remembering that just now – haven’t been doing that with my Diablo). I wonder if it might also be a problem with your smart charger not being as smart as it should be and possibly allowing your battery to get overcharged.

Let me know if you’d like me to test mine by running it like you do yours.

With the newer lithium ion batteries you don’t want a full discharge (it will never charge again; the circuitry should shut down the device first, but it’s not something to try to do). They do have a limited number of charging cycles, so it’s better to charge it once after 3/4 than three times after 1/4. Don’t leave it on the charger when it’s done, it’ll discharge a bit, recharge, discharge, etc.
