Does anyone have experience as a regular commuter to one of these medical centers. I’m beginning a new position in the upcoming weeks and I am considering commuting from downtown Silver Spring to CNMC 3 days a week. Does anyone have insight or experiences with location, parking/lockers or facilities available?

I go by there a lot and it’s a pretty nice ride from Silver Spring (Fenton-Takoma-Piney Branch-5th-Park Place, not too trafficky and some bike lanes to boot), but I haven’t a clue as to facilities once you get there. Good luck!

I got this info from a colleague who cycles into work at Children’s National Health System: there are 2 areas with bike racks—one is on P1 near the patient drop off area and the other is near the Emergency Room. The area near the Emergency Room is supposed to be more secure—we had a number of bikes stolen from the P1 parking area.

On a related note: A week from tonight, DDOT will present a preliminary proposal for protected bike lanes on Irving St between Michigan Ave and Kenyon, across the north side of the hospitals complex. They apparently also plan to upgrade the existing bike lanes on Park/5th and Warder/7th Streets.

The meeting will be Tuesday, June 12, at 6pm at the Raymond Rec Center, 3725 10th St NW (between Spring and Quincy, just west of Petworth metro). It’d be lovely to have folks who work (or are about to) at the hospitals to come and say how this would help them.
