By my math, you would have to ride from the river to the top of Powhatan Hill (highest point in Arlington) about 65 times to do it. If I were going to attempt such a feat, I’d either do repeats of 26th from Military to Glebe, or 123 from Glebe up to Crest Lane, although most of that hill is technically in Fairfax County. But I’d wager you’d have to do either hill about 200 times to get 29k+ feet.

Or just do Kill Bill 2.2 times.

No, you’re missing the key point to “Everesting”… You have to ride the SAME SEGMENT for 8,848m, in a single 24 hour period.

Here’s the number of climbs you have to do of each of the following:

    1) Walter Reed – 119ft – 244 times.
    2) Jay Miller- 136ft – 214 times
    3) Patrick Henry – 160ft – 182 times
    4) Quantico – 100ft – 291 times

    Other Segments:
    Powhatan Hill – 135ft
    Mt Daniel – 77ft
    41st St – 106ft
    Anglers Hill – 222ft – 130 times.
    Woodburn Rd: 224ft
    Bluemont: 311ft
    Thomasville Rd: 377ft – 86 times.
    Mt Weather – 869ft – 33 times.
    Coxey Brown – 991ft
    Ascent to Dickey Ridge – 1171ft – 24 times.

Pete is spot on! I especially like the Coxey Brown option. 2 miles/1000 feet of climbing. Now, anyone dumb/crazy enough to do this?? I even made a Strava route so we dont get lost!

Have you actually ridden Coxey Brown?

I haven’t ridden it yet either. More liked rode up, stopped, rode a little bit more, stopped, walked, tried to ride again, failed, walked, then rode the flat part, walked, and finished.

http://labs.strava.com/flyby/viewer/#63662777 – Start at 6h19m. You can see where I stopped, and walked.

Looks rough, very impressive. That said, maybe you’d have more success if you didn’t have 6 hours of riding on your legs by that point!

I’d seriously consider a group siege on Dickey Ridge. Frankly, the amount of time on the bike scares me more than the climbing. It’s about 200 miles of riding, but half would be descending which would help. If you ascended at a modest 5mph, and descended at a modest 15mph, that would leave you with about 4 hours of rest time. No prob!

No, but it sounds like 30 laps would make an awesome Coxey Brown Everest Challenge Grand Fondo. I challenge DCV to lead the inaugural ride.

It’s insanity, but I must admit I have evaluated Dickey Ridge and Sugarloaf as possible options before. My conclusion was “no way”, but I’d be happy to join a group effort to support the insane.

There are some cool pics from the everesting insta hashtag (remember 1m = 3.28 feet)

For those willing to travel and into gravel, you could do this segment. gains 1,131 feet in just 2.2 miles, average grade 9.8%. Riding it 26 times would give you 29,406 feet of climbing in 57 miles of climbing and 57 miles of descending. Sounds like great SM100 training.

I’ve climbed that segment in 25 mins and descended it (another segment http://www.strava.com/segments/5740499) in 8 mins. So if I could keep up a climbing time of 30 mins (not likely) and descending of 10 min, it would take me (26*30 + 26 *10) or 17 hours and 45 mins.
