I put the aero bars on the gravel grinder bike today. The wind was a big help in getting them dialed in!

You would find something positive about the wind.

I’m about to go grumpily ride down the PA Ave Wind Tunnel of U-Turns. I’ll be sure to think fluffy thoughts.

I did my first Hains Point loop with Strava on today – I averaged 20mph on the leg without the wind, 13.4mph with the wind, and it was only that fast because I was really pushing it. I am DONE with wind.

I treat it sort of like a hill / roller. Go easy like it’s a downhill to spin the 20mph with the wind and then push it like you’re climbing to get 15/16mph against the wind, and do it all over again.

I completely agree. You just need to think differently about cycling. Wind is something to play in. :D

Yeah yeah yeah. I will say that this forum has inspired me. Will saying on Strava that cadence and drop bars beat the wind, Tim telling me that being clipped in is all about making circles with your feet instead of pushing up and down, Rule 5…

All that was going through my head as I struggled to average 13.4mph. This was mile 8 through 9 and a half of my commute in, when my normal full day is only 7 miles, and it was one of the hardest 1.5 miles I’ve ridden. It was good, though. My legs aren’t entirely happy with me at the moment, but they’ll survive.

Maybe I’ll do it again tomorrow…

Perhaps you should remove that wood mustache I gave you, that thing is certainly creating drag!

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who finds all this wind challenging! Lucky us, we get to do it again tomorrow.

Laugh maniacally at it. You’ll feel better. You’ll scare away aggressive drivers. You’ll feel better.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the wind covers up my singing of the HMS Pinafore, this is unacceptable.

Is there some weird wind tunnel effect on Four Mile Run Drive going NW between 395 and Columbia Pike? The afternoon wind always seems to be at its most brutal in that stretch heading west in the afternoon/evening.
