Interestingly (or not) Wunderground shows that the area had similarly high winds on pretty much the exact same days in 2011 and 2012, both out of the NNW, then shifting to milder winds out of the S for the middle of the month, then back out of the north for the last few days. It’ll be interesting to see if that holds true this month.

I totally deserve to be slapped around for being perpetually happy about cycling conditions, regardless of how miserable they are. I appreciate a good headwind most of the time. Headwinds are mind games. You have to train your brain to ride into a headwind just as much, if not MORE than your legs. Today was NOT easy. 28mph headwinds are definitely a great opportunity to practice punching holes in the wind.

I’m with Consularrider on this. And Dirt. I’m over the wind. I think the hardest part is that you have nothing to show for your hard work. On a hill, you work hard but at the end you can turn around and look down the hill and be proud that you climbed it. In the wind, you work hard and at end you turn around and look at a perfectly flat piece of beautiful trail that just smacked you in the face. And strava laughs at your speed.

Still loved the ride home tho.

I see it as an excellent opportunity to conduct control studies on ELITE drafting v. bike garment body smell. Fascinating stuff.

Careful on the 14th St bridge this evening. The wind was blowing my car sideways as I drove from DC to VA! And it’s not like my Civic is a high profile car.

That’s why I skipped my Hain’s Point loop. It was hard enough riding Lynn St from Wilson to the MVT.

I think I was riding at a 45 degree angle crossing Key.

Crossing Roosevelt is also tricky when there’s people coming the other way. Almost wish I had a heavier bike.

Memorial was RIDICULOUS coming home today. DC side was okay, but the VA side was like Typhoon Tony Danza. I got around the bend and the wind meant that I didn’t have to pedal through the crosswalk…then I turned northbound – chug.

Damn you Mark for looking that up, I am certain you are secretly happy with your prediction.

I did my first Hains Point loop with Strava on today – I averaged 20mph on the leg without the wind, 13.4mph with the wind, and it was only that fast because I was really pushing it. I am DONE with wind.
