So let it be written. So let it be done.

Thanks to everyone who sent an e-mail. The bill was killed in committee yesterday afternoon by a 13-2 vote.

If it’s anything like ending contributory negligee in DC, it’s going to be a long effort.

Any feedback or indication of why it was killed?

[Sigh] We pick ourselves off the deck and keep working.

DC peeps- What combo of “magic words” and focused lobbying effort got DC’s Bill through?

I would assume lobbying by insurance cos, who like the contributory negligence standard.

In general, bike/ped friendly legislation in Richmond takes a few attempts before finally getting passed. I was suprised Senator Surovell proposed this at this point – this is a good start, IMO.

Yep. If you can put on both parties, there are two deductibles instead of one.

it’s not that: they like it because contributory negligence makes it much less likely that someone will try to go to court to get a better outcome than whatever the insurance companies decide is appropriate.
