ParticipantWhat a great idea — I totally want one of these. I’d ride down to the Cheverly for the holiday market if I could figure out how to get there from the Anacostia Tributary Trails without riding on Landover Road or 201… Google doesn’t show any bike routes at all in town. Would be awesome if the town somehow arranged a spur from the new Anacostia River Trail extension that goes all the way down past the Bladensburg marina to the DC line (and will someday connect all the way along the DC Anacostia waterfront). Or maybe someday the WB&A trail extension to DC will be built and provide a bike link to Cheverly. Here’s a deal — I’ll buy a hat if you could try to provide the Forum with info on how to get to Cheverly by bike!

ParticipantFrom Bladensburg Waterfront Park: Exit the park and turn right onto Rt 450. Cross under the train overpass and go about 0.1 mi turning right onto 48th St. After about 0.2 mi bear left onto Quincy St. Stay on Quincy St and then turn right on 55th Ave. After about 200 feet turn left onto Newton St. After about 0.5 mi turn left onto 58th Place. After 100 feet turn right on Rt 202. Cross under BW Parkway underpass and turn right onto Cheverly Ave. After 0.5 mi turn left onto Forest Rd. the community center is 6401 Forest Rd on the right.
It sounds way more complicated than it is! My husband Oz takes this route every day on his way up to Lake Artemesia from Cheverly. There are just 2 very brief sections on 450 and 202. The rest is very quiet residential. And although Cheverly doesn’t have dedicated bike lanes, the 25 mph speed limit is strictly enforced, making biking on the Avenue fairly safe.
There is a new piece of bike trail opening, but to access it, you have to ride further on Kenilworth. And another piece is being developed from the back edge of Cheverly by the Hospital to cut through the Industrial Park and over to Kenilworth, but that is a thing of the future…….
Come on down! I look forward to seeing you at the Holiday Market.

Dirt – Thanks for your purchase – Your package is on it’s way….
And just to let everyone know…there are only a dozen or so hats shown online, but I’ll have over 200 to choose from on Saturday.
It’s a beautiful weekend for fall foliage – come on out to the park, enjoy the hiking paths, other games and demonstrations, and be sure to stop in the Nature Center to find your perfect Encore Hat. There is an EncoreHat out there with YOUR name on it!

ParticipantThe hat is awesome! Perfect even. I will likely buy more. It is thin enough to wear under a helmet, but warm enough to keep my ears and head warm. Great, great hat. Buy one! The sizing recommendations on the web site is spot on.
Thank you!
