The month of May holds 2 great opportunities to go and visit embassies in DC: the Around the World Embassy Tour and the European Union Embassies’ Open House. Getting to/from the embassies is extremely easy and convenient if going by bike (although there may be a few hills) because it’s easy to find a telephone/light pole for locking one’s bike, much easier than trying to find parking (driving NOT recommended).
The embassy open houses are free and provide an opportunity to sample the culture (and yummy food) of and get tourism information from each participating country.
The embassies will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on the following dates:
- Around the World Embassy Tour: Saturday, May 6
- European Union Embassies’ Open House: Saturday, May 13

The embassies fill up pretty quickly and have long lines come afternoon, so I recommend picking 3-4 to visit and getting there early (9:30 or so).
This is something that you can’t do in any other city in the United States, so make sure to make the most of it!
