It is that time of year again! Join the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Alexandria Spokeswomen and Phoenix Bikes for a free family-friendly bike ride around Del Ray.

Is this scheduled on any particular day?

There’s a rumor that Santa Claus will be making an appearance again this year.

This year my trike is going to be decorated as a winter wonderland. Parts have been ordered just have to be delivered. :)

In light of today’s forecast, the Eighth Annual Alexandria Holiday Lights Ride has been postponed until tomorrow, Sunday, December 16. Same time, same place, same festiveness — 5:30 p.m. at the George Washington Middle School parking lot. Hope to see you there!

No rumor, Santa did indeed show up.

You must have ridden down Mt. Vernon Avenue.

If I’m remembering correctly, I believe city staff said that Mt. Vernon was getting repaved next year.

My heart skipped a beat, when I initially mistook that to mean repaving the Mt. Vernon Trail… :(

It seems like it’s been on the resurfacing list for the past few years. :-( Perhaps the City wisely decided to wait until after the current construction project between Thai Peppers and the old Audi dealership is finished, as they’ve made a huge mess of the southbound lane.

I’d be shouting from the rooftops if the MVT were getting repaved. One good reason development on the MVT was that a tiny little portion in Old Town where there was a gnarly dip/hole/bump/yikes was repaved. This piece: https://goo.gl/maps/a3h7v81D3aR2

Rootchopper has a good picture of it in a blog post (2nd picture at the bottom): https://rootchopper.com/2018/12/06/trails-little-things-mean-a-lot/

Staff also updated at the last BPAC that they will be widening the sidewalk on Abingdon to trail width on the land route of the Mt. Vernon Trail. Here’s what it looks like now: https://goo.gl/maps/8pG3Mgoi9Eo

Next time I’ll dress more appropriately, but I had fun. Big thanks to BPAC, Alexandria Spokeswomen, Phoenix Bikes, and also Komorebi for the route. And a special shout out to Hipster Santa and his single-speed sleigh. He rocked beards before they were cool, maaan.
