Yes, sorry I wasn’t clear; have updated original post.

I think DC. Arlington’s was hit earlier in the summer.

Definitely DC’s. Aside from what I recall seeing on the grapevine, DDOT is located adjacent to that intersection (across the street from US DOT).

Geez, who’d have thought “Director of Bike & Pedestrian Safety” was such a hazardous position?

Well, it is when your agency stubbornly refuses to create safe spaces for pedestrians and cyclists.

I had automatically assumed the source meant USDOT since it came thru a USDOT listserv but now I’m not so sure….

I deleted the email, so I am not sure what it said, but folks at HQ will discuss items of local concern to the M Street SE area.

I don’t think it’s DC. The branch of DDOT that does bikes and peds is “Policy, Planning and Sustainability Administration”, headed by Sam Zimbabwe. For at least a decade the lead person for bike/ped programs has been Jim Sebastian, and though his title has shifted around a little over the years it’s never included “safety”. (As far as I know DC doesn’t have anybody specifically concerned with bike / ped safety. That’s not snark – all traffic safety is done by the “Transportation Operations Administration” branch of DDOT.)

Also, US-DOT employees have been hit and even killed by traffic on M St. before, which resulted in exactly no meaningful changes on that highway-disguised-as-street.
