There is always controversy about demonizing pitbulls and similar breeds of dogs. But the fact is that some people buy these dogs precisely because they are threatening and powerful. Some of these owners also mistreat the dogs and turn them into roving attack dogs. This would be less of a concern for a breed like a chihuahua, which is not going to be deadly. But an aggressive pitbull or German shepherd can cause serious injury. In these cases, the dogs have already attacked people and other pets.

After years as a runner and dog walker, I’ve learned never to blindly trust a white poodle. Or a dalmatian. YMMV.

Surprised the dogs made it from Shepherd Park over to Crestwood without getting killed by the people zipping down 16th St. The dogs must have known where the speed camera was to cross.

For me, it’s less one or two, but a pack of dogs that scares me. I was down in NO after Hurricane Katrina maybe a month or so after the storm. Anyway, I’m walking back to my car and I start hearing a few barks, then a chorus of barks. I was alone on the street and you have to remember right afterward there really weren’t many people in there at all. I looked down the street and there was a whole pack of these dogs coming full speed. I don’t think I ever made it into a car faster in my life.

I have zero doubt they would have bitten me. You could tell they had not eaten in weeks. Anyway, my point is that pitbulls may be aggressive one-on-one, but all dogs that haven’t eaten in a while in a pack become very dangerous.
