    Hey Everyone–

With all the talk of knee surgery going on in another thread, does anyone have a good doctor/GP they can recommend that is more sports/athlete/active person minded? I’m just looking for a standard physical/check up, but would like to go somewhere that deals with generally active people. The closer to Arlington the better.

    Any suggestions?

I’m going for my first appointment/physical with Dr. Richey in Old Town next week. A very active coworker of mine highky recommended him so I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’ve been seeing Dr Kathryn Dreger in Arl for about 5 years and have been quite happy. She is an occasional bike commuter.

If anyone has a cardiologist recommendation please let me know. I’m overdue for my five year EBT/heart catheterization.

I’d think about getting someone close to you, as in a five minute ride away.
Because you’re obscenely young and fit, you’ll probably only need the occasional flu shot or prescription for a minor infection.
When you’re sick, driving or riding is hard. So find someone close.
If anything changes with your health, you’ll need a specialist. That’s when someone who understands athletes matters.

And don’t shy away from using a large practice where you’ll see a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant. They’re great too.

And frankly for simple things like routine immunizations, sports physicals for kids, or minor problems, I have had great experiences with the Minute Clinics in CVS. They even declined to see my sick child on a Saturday afternoon because he was too sick for them to handle. So I believe they use a responsible triage system.

I was pleased with Dr. Brian Glick in Arlington. However, there are no bike racks at the medical building where his office is located. You can lock it up to the railings in the parking garage.

Gee, a doctor who doesn’t dismiss the idea that changes in a patients’ diet and exercise might have a beneficial effect? That would be a plus in itself.

Dr. Christoper Walsh is in Shirlington. He used to be the team Dr. for the Caps. Great guy, and a runner too. His entire staff plus fellow Drs. in his practice have been really good. Plus he’s connected to a lot of specialists and they keep your info going back and forth between them so everyone seems to be on the same page better. I should add though that he is very popular. I am not sure if he taking new patients right now, but the rest of his practice is.
