ParticipantThanks to the organizers of this effort. Should we be speaking to businesses we frequent there? How do we find out if they are supporters or not?

YonaWe’re always looking for people to chat up local businesses about the Quincy Street Protected Bike Lane. It looks like staff is moving forward with design concepts, but I’m afraid business support is going to drop a bit when we go from “in concept” to “and here’s how many parking spaces are going to go away”. We need to make sure they understand that they have customers who don’t drive!

ParticipantWill do.
(FWIW, I will talk to Sweetgreen, Serious Yoga, Cafe Tirolo, and Gold’s. The Gold’s parking lot has increasingly become a packed quagmire of frustrated drivers stalking people who might be walking to a vehicle. If only there were another way for people to transport themselves to exercise… People would not be unhappy at first, but I think all users would be better off if they charged something moderate for parking.)February 22, 2016 at 2:53 pm #1047807dasgeh
ParticipantThank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday. We had a spectacular turnout. It wasn’t an agenda item, so Board members didn’t want to vote on anything, but they did ask staff about it.
Staff said they would get back to the Board with the paving schedule for Quincy, and said they were already working up designs, though with “minimum curb displacement” or something like that. If you want to see it yourself, you can click here, and I’m guessing my comments are about 12 minutes in, while the Board’s and staff’s responses are about 20 minutes in. (If someone watches, maybe they’ll update with time stamps).
So this was a win for our first step.
But the really awesome part was when staff and Board members brought up — on their own, without me saying anything — the need to update the bicycle element of the master transportation plan. HOORAY, HOORAY, HOORAY!!!

ParticipantWe’re back in the news, and have more meetings coming up!
If you want to join the push to get this done, please lend your support by heading to http://www.waba.org/advoc…/campaigns/bike-friendly-ballston/. And please turn out in person to show your support: the Bicycle Advisory Committee in meeting with County staff to walk through some options next Monday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. on the Quincy Street side of the Central Library, and the Arlington Action Committee will meet with county staff the following week (Monday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at a yet-to-be-determined location. Both meetings are open to the public.

ParticipantSix months ago, 30 members of our Arlington Action Committee stood in front of the County Board with a simple request: explore installing protected bike lanes on North Quincy Street between the Custis Trail and Glebe Road. This would create a safe, low stress bicycle connection into Ballston.
Thanks to enormous support from business owners, civic associations, and over 600 residents like you, we walked away successful! The Board directed county staff to take a look and draw up plans for ways to make it happen.
Now, we’re ready for the next step! On Monday, September 19, we are hosting a community meeting so that County staff can give an update on this exciting project. Will you join us?
Update on Quincy Street Protected Bike Lanes

Volunteer with us at the Arlington Fun Ride (Saturday, Oct 1)!To show Arlingtonians what protected bike lanes are all about, we’re teaming up with the County to set up a “pop-up protected bike lane” on Quincy between the Custis Trail and the Central Library pit-stop. Setting up and tearing down the pop-up protected bike lane is a lot of work though, so we need your help! Click here to help out.
