ParticipantHi All – we’re seeking one more bike club/team to captain the water crossing checkpoint. If you know of any who may be interested, please contact me! (and if you haven’t registered – what’s stopping you [emoji5])

ParticipantWill “rough terrain” be something my 64 yr-old dad can handle on his recumbent, either riding or walking? He doesn’t have the best balance… though I suppose the meter high barrier might be a challenge too.

ParticipantI’m officially signed up now with Komorebi and Sarah Bee on my team. I encourage everyone to sign up still, but we’re totally going to win the team category. Our secret strategy is going to be to load a 1986 Dodge Caravan with supplies, throw it in neutral and then tow it with our bikes.

You will need to add wheels&wings to your team to steer the van and apply the brakes when going downhill.

Teams are limited to three people, so they will need to use an autonomous van.

Then I guess Judd and Komorebi will have to ride the tandem, and Komorebi can jump off and climb into the van for turns, downhills, and stops.

I think this plan sounds really feasible.
I was going to suggest to the organizers that they should award extra points for simulating a medical rescue by carrying Wheels &Wings in on of those things you use to strap a kiddo to your back.

ParticipantTime is running out! Registration closes this Friday! You should sign up! It’s really cool that Arlington is interested in testing out bikes in emergency situations. Let’s show them how this is one other way that bikes and bike infrastructure is good for Arlington.
As an added bonus, I will buy a beer afterwards for anyone that carries more pounds of stuff than me.
More info and sign up is at: DRTArlington.com

ParticipantOfficially I don’t think I can condone such alcoholic tendencies, but that sounds like a pretty good deal to me…

In disaster situations it is often unsafe to drink the water. This bonus task will help prepare you for situations where beer is the only uncontaminated water source available.
