ParticipantI take this route on the way home too. There’s probably enough room left for them to paint a new bike lane – once they even out the pavement on the edge of the road. It’s a bit scary in the meantime and the SUV’s don’t give you much room I had one yell at me to get on the sidewalk (and was astonished that he was a scotsman – who I would have thought would have known better).
I’m assuming they’ll come back and finish this some time?

ParticipantYes, I hear that this is a work in progress and I have been assured that the bike lanes will stick around.

Yup, that’s what they mean. Between Lee Hwy/Lyon Village and Clarendon.

ParticipantMy peeps on the inside successfully pulled off a covert intel gathering mission. Reports suggest that it will get done in the next couple of weeks.

Hi, Tim,
Any word on this? When I rode through a few days ago it was still not fixed.
It’s hard to understand how it improves bicycle safety to narrow the road significantly, forcing us closer to the cars, while simultaneously removing the bike lane markings! Seems to me like a lawsuit waiting to happen; I would think Arlington would want to get this completed.
Thanks,
Nick

Peeps are back on the case! I bet that if a concerned citizen wanted to make a few phone calls, it might add a little motivation…

Thanks, Tim,
Who might such a concerned citizen call and where would they find that person’s number?

ParticipantBetween this and this still-missing sharrows on Walter Reed Drive the pavement marking department is on my naughty list this year.

ParticipantI checked around and it sounds like putting in requests like this to the Residential Maintenance Report Form is the way to do it. This is the same one used for pothole filling requests. Apparently calls and emails end up getting put into the database in the end, so this is the most efficient: http://www.arlingtonva.us/departments/environmentalservices/cpe/concrete/resform.htm
Nick–I’ll send you a PM on this.

Participant+1 on Walter Reed Drive. Based on the map showing bike lanes or sharrows on Walter Reed between 17th Street and Columbia Pike, I rode to the Farmers Market last Sunday. But once I got up there, I was surprised to see no markings of any sort.

The County takes this stuff pretty seriously–I encourage everyone to submit any issues they see.

ParticipantHere’s the response I just received:
Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the missing pavement markings on Walter Reed Drive. We are working to get those sharrows reinstalled. They were not done with the other markings due to a contractual issue, but I assure you we have not forgotten about them. I hope to have them installed this fall. As pavement markings are weather dependent, if they are not installed this fall they will be a priority for whatever warm days we may have during the winter and will be near the top of the list in the spring when marking efforts resume in earnest.
If you have any other questions about this issue, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Patricia Bush
