…USAC Road Crit rules apply. Road upgrade points (except Men’s 2 to 1; see upgrade rules). Flat bars okay. For handlebar rules, see Rulebook, Ch. 1. Front & rear brakes required; no fixed gears. Pit w/ free-lap rule. Combined fields scored separately for podiums. USAC license required (except in MTB, Tandem, & Anything Goes fields); must show. Men’s 123 & Women’s 123 fields are MABRA BAR events.

…Pre-Register at http://bikereg.com/dirtybikeneticrit (service fee applies). Use your Road Category (Cross Cats do not apply); Masters use the age you turn in 2016. Women can race in Men’s fields one Road Cat down. Second race $15. Day-of race $10 late fee, except Junior fields. USAC 1-day license ($10), available only for Road Cat 5 Men & Cat 4 Women. Cash only on race day. Rain or shine! No refunds….

…Cross racers (well, the men): We realize lots of you are experienced in cross but Road Cat 5–it’ll be okay! You can enter any Cat 5 field you see, including all Masters. Cat 5 Beginners is really for those who are Cat 5 in both Road & Cross. Cat 4/5 is better for experienced cross racers (say Cross Cat 4 or 3) who are still Road Cat 5 or 4. But the choice is yours. Women: We’ve got separate podiums for Cat 4, Cat 3, and Pro/1/2/3. Plus, USAC rules allow you to race in Men’s fields one Cat down, so you can pick up a second race if you’re a glutton for punishment…

Beer Garden & Food: We’re bringing the Cross party to Road racing. Java Cruiser will have incredible breakfast sandwiches & BBQ all day, Acme Pie will have pie–need we say more?). The Clare & Don’s Beach Shack Beer Garden will have free Fair Winds Brewing Howling Gale IPA and Quaside Kolsch–brand new in cans!–with your cash donations benefiting MORE’s local trail-building projects. So don’t just race & ditch–stick around, have a beer, and enjoy heckling the other races!

Umm, I only understand what I bolded, the rest are lots of words but meanings are lost! It sounds complicated! Handlebar rules? I’ll assume that has nothing to do with moustaches. Where can I find the USAC for Dummies book?

Gravel and free beer! Kolsch!!! I have entered my son Nolan and me in the tandem race. He’s too young too drink so I’ll have to drink enough for both of us.

It makes no sense to me either really but making it as simple as can be:

Do you have a USAC license? If not, you’ll need a one-day pass (I believe you can do that when you register for the race as part of your entry) and that will automagically put you in Cat 5.

Thus, your options for entry are: Cat 5/beginner men (no bikes with pointy bar-end thingies); mountain bike OR Anything Goes (which doesn’t require the one-day license).

That, and I’m absolutely positive that if you ask the folks at the registration tent day-of, or send a quick e-mail to the race organizers, they’ll surely get you in the right race! Be sure to show up at least an hour before whichever race you might try – either the Cat5/beginner men or the anything goes.

AND GET READY TO HAVE FUN!!!!
