Hi Kathy. That was a Dirt imposter. Sorry for my slow response. I was riding elsewhere on Independence Day.

Beach cruiser saddles are supposed to be too low. Have you ever tried to get correct leg extension on a bike with a saddle that is 14 inches wide? And on another note, I don’t really *tell* my father-in-law anything. ;)

Pretty much all beach bike saddles are 14″ wide.

Out of curiosity, where are you in the pic?

I wish I had a bike path right outside my front door.

Newport Beach, California. Lovely place, but it is CRAZY to go there on the 4th of July weekend. Imagine Time Square on New Years Eve, except everyone is barely legal, almost naked and drunk. I didn’t enjoy that kind of thing when I was a kid. It gets “point and laugh” value these days. I guess I never really related to going to a nice place for the express purpose drinking beer so fast that you can’t taste it and being “seen” by whatever form of humanity attracts you.

Home Depot in nearby Costa Mesa actually had a whole section devoted to selling funnels, plastic tubing and the valves needed to create beer slamming paraphernalia. I laughed at that one.

Almost any other time of the year it is wonderful.

whilst at a family reunion in grand rapids, michigan, i watched part of the usa cycling pro criterium race. walking around the circuit (several times), among the spectators, i saw a bicycle with really fat tires – made me think of one of dirt’s bikes. i talked with the owner. he said the fat tires were useful in snow (and sand) and he rides all through the winter. the bicycle was made by 616 bicycle fabrication of west michigan. as we talked, he offered to let me, a complete stranger, take it for a ride. it was fun, very cushy, but more difficult to pedal and steer.
people in grand rapids are very friendly.
