ParticipantThe link has something to do with “astuceclub” dot net. I didn’t click on it either, I just looked at the reference. Google leads me to believe it’s some French FB gaming something-or-other. I don’t need Google to know it’s annoying.

ParticipantYeah. And I’m not thrilled about there being a security hole that allows someone to add something to the header of this forum. This one at least requires someone to click on it. The next one could be an automatic redirect to a malware page or the like.

ParticipantAlright, I think if we all post our SSN’s and addresses the hackers will probably go away and we can talk about bikes again.
So if everyone could post theirs below…. Thanks.
I’d post mine, but I work for the gov’t, so they already have all my info. No need to be redundant and create more work for them having to clean up their data and stuff. Right? Right.

ParticipantOkay, I’ll go first. SSN is 123-45-6789. Address is 20, Abdulkadir Ahmed Road, Commercial Layout Bauchi, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Now all the rest of you can post yours. And while you’re at it, wire money since my passport and wallet just got stolen while I was traveling.

Some guy whose real SSN is 123-45-6789 is really mad at you right now.

Fortunately, there is no such person. The first three numbers are issued based on the geographical area where the Social Security number is issued, and 123 is not assigned. Yep, I’m the kind of nerd who knows such things.

ParticipantWell yes, sort of, if you want to be taken for a ride. So to speak.

ParticipantThere have been a lot more spammers this year who have managed to get around the antispam tools. Some guy started multiple threads advertising some product a few days ago. Maybe he is upset that his threads got deleted?

Well sure you can! It’s a town in Virginia in Prince Edward and Cumberland Counties. It’s home to Longwood University, a lovely detention center, and, more importantly, the High Bridge Trail. I’m sure you could devise a route to ride down there.

Yeah, but hacking the heading is much more of a security issue than a hack that just allows for posting. For the latter, you’d just need a human who looks at the available codes once, and a script that tries each of them until one works for each posting thereafter. And the person who uses that hack can only post codes that the forum recognizes (no javascript redirects, for example). For the former, the forum software itself needs to be insecure. And if it is, all sorts of malicious code can be inserted.
I suspect that what we need is an update to the forum software (and a removal of the codes that have already been inserted). But I’m not sure how to get the attention of the person who could do that.

ParticipantThere was a period of almost a year where there were almost no spammers. Before that, the spam problem was really bad, a hundred times worse than it is now. So the software people (VBulletin or whoever it is) managed to figure something out to block the spammers. But then the spammers figured out their own new tricks and started to trickle in again.
