A bad week. Let’s hope everyone is ok on Friday! Kudos to Dickie, and glad to hear things weren’t worse for you.

Tim I think we need a “glad you’re okay” button.

Oye vey. Glad you’re okay. You know if Dickie was really on his game if he gave you a shot of whiskey for recovery.

Sorry, Jim, and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Amazing how quickly things can go wrong.

Dickie, do you want the dirty mustache back?

Seriously, WTF is it with today and accidents? Glad it wasn’t worse.

So sorry to hear about your accident Jim. Perhaps a note to the authorities explaining the giant lip on that bridge is in order? Sounds like something that could be easily fixed with some asphalt.

    Ouch.

Klizotte: excellent idea. I will contact the Fx Park Authority.

Sorry we had to meet under such crappy circumstances, but glad you got home safe and are hopefully recovering and feeling better. I was so impressed with how many passing riders showed their concern and asked if we needed anything… kudos to all of them. Seriously, just glad you’re OK.

I am thinking of wearing a St. Bernard’s keg around my neck from now on!

Thats terrible! I guess it could have been worse. If you stick your arm out to break the fall, the wrist or collarbone might snap. Tuck and roll I guess. Easier said than done, I have a plate in my wrist from a fall and have broken collarbones several times. I fell yesterday too, but didn’t break anything. Who else crashed?

Kudos to Dickie for stopping and providing first aid. Nice to have someone you know there when you’re dealing with calamity. Funny way to meet.

Too often when we stranded on the side, too many people BS-ly call out, “You Ok?” as they cruise by. It is refreshing to hear about somebody who actually meant it and helped out.
Good Job! and good job on posting it. spread that Karma.

    On another note
On our first W-L Bike Club Ride of the year we took 18 kids for their first time around the ‘Loop’. We lost one of the kids for about 15 minutes and got us pretty worried. We doubled back and found him. He had stopped to help an older Gent fix a flat. The student was a product of Phoenix Bikes where he was obviously schooled on proper biking etiquette!

“BS-ly”? Why is asking if someone is okay “BS”? Is there a better way to do it? I almost always slow down and ask folks if they’re okay (unless it’s clear they aren’t stopped due to a mechanical/health problem) and I’m always prepared to stop and actually help (which I have done on more than one occasion), either with a spare tube, or a pump, or whatever. But if I ask “got everything you need?” or something of that sort, and the person responds “yup, I’m good”, how is that “BS-ly” on my part?

I guess my philosophy is that if someone needs help, they’ll say “yes” when I ask, and someone won’t offer me help unless they are prepared to give it.

I have broken down twice on the trail. I have been awe struck by the people who asked if I was okay and needed help. Ultimately I did ask for help and both times the people who stopped were TREMENDOUSLY helpful. I believe one time Shawn of the Dread stopped and acted as my spiritual counselor as I weeped over a broken chain.

    Trail culture is amazing!

I have to take some exception to that too- I always mean it when I say it and if someone looks like they are just being proud, I’ll stop anyway.

In this case I actually saw you guys and offered to help but things looked well in hand (I didn’t see the blood)- it clicked later that it was Dickie (sorry, I didn’t know that you were of the hairless tribe- used to helmets)

    Both of you please relax.
What I meant is that too often people call it out, “you OK?” without actually looking back, or even slowing down.
