ParticipantThat was definitely one the things I hated the most about driving in winter here.

ParticipantOn the other hand, it easily takes me 10 more minutes to get ready in the winter, even when everything is laid out in a neat line at my door- shoe covers over lugged MTB shoes are the bane of my mornings- 05:00 this morning I was lying on my face on the hardwood floor of my foyer and slowly spinning trying to stretch out my leg in such a way that I could get the &%#$ zipper over the heel of the shoe… there was much cussing. Then, tights + bibs + jacket + liners + lobster mitts, I realized that I had to pee…
It took me a few miles to regain my ‘smug’ and then my light (that I’d forgotten to charge) died.
It’s still better than driving November 26, 2012 at 5:52 pm #956033Terpfan
ParticipantI did need a minute or two to add some air
. I hadn’t ridden in two weeks between work, being sick and then the holidays. Felt good to be back on the bike today, even if it was cold.

I keep my toe covers on my MTB shoes through the cold season, and I ordered Moose Mitts which should take care of my hands. I know what you mean though, I typically lay out all my stuff the night before and it still takes awhile to get it all on correctly. I don’t own tights, but do use legwarmers – I put one on slightly sideways this morning and zipped it up before realizing. Instead of unzipping and restarting I tried to twist it around correctly which was stupid.
I’m really happy with my merino wool base layers though. I just wear that and a wind jacket and I’m all good. Lately I’ve been riding a bit in just jeans/trousers – I barely miss the padding (hooray for out of the saddle single speeding) and the temps are low enough that I don’t need anywhere as much wicking.

It’s still better than driving See, I’m kinda the opposite. If I get ready at home on a cold winter morning, I almost always have a long, hot shower and take my sweet time to get ready. When I ride, I still dawdle, but it only ends up taking me 10 minutes to shower/change once I actually get to work…so overall, I think my “bed to butt-in-chair” time is probably less if I ride.
