Del Ray Holiday Lights Bike Parade — Saturday, Dec. 16

BPAC and the Alexandria Spokeswomen are hosting their annual holiday lights bike parade this Saturday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Here are some photos from last year:

Note that this year’s ride starts at a different place than previous years: meet at 1005 Mt. Vernon Ave., in the parking lot behind the George Washington Middle School. Pro tip: wear extra layers, because the ride is very slow paced. Last year we averaged 7-8 mph. But it’s always a fun time — kids run outside to cheer us on, lots of people call out “Happy Holidays!” from their porches, and sometimes we run into carolers.

I’m planning to be there. When I lived in Del Ray I loved watching all the lit up bikes roll by, so I’m excited I can finally join the ride this year!
