ParticipantWhat are these orange stakes on each side of the Mt Vernon Trail? If I was an optimist I would say the NPS is marking the trail so the snow plows will know where to plow.

I heard some murmurs last weekend that NPS was going to do at least some limited plowing this year.

There were none of these markers between Trollheim and Memorial Bridge when I went through ~7:00, and I did not go south of the 14th Street Bridge exit this morning. Any between there and Gravelly Point? Trying to figure out how useful “limited plowing” might be.

ParticipantThey were up on the ABT and there before the Memorial Bridge.
I think anyway…I’ll try to remember to look for real on way home.
(The ABT was brined)

ParticipantThe Arlington Bicycle Advisory Committee (and a number of others) have engaged with the NPS GWMP on the subject. While we had suggested that extensive trail clearing was appropriate, we also offered some critical connections that could be done without significant resources.
The NPS GWMP staff have been a bit mum on what their plan is, but there is a meeting next week where they will share it with BikeArlington, WABA and others.
For the bike advocates, the excitement rivals that other unwrap the package activity this month.
Stay tuned.

ParticipantThe markers are up around Humpback. I didn’t check to see if they extended down to Memorial Bridge. Nothing up in LBJ Memorial Grove.
Folks coming down the Custis can likely count on having Key Bridge as the option for crossing the river.
It would be great for me if LBJ was plowed since it’s my normal route but plowing from the end of the 110 trail to Memorial Bridge and 14th would be an improvement.
If I remember the wishlist from last year it was really creating access to bridges. There’s still going to be on road riding to get to them.

ParticipantWe were successful at getting the snow fences at the Humpback removed. They were the ones that helped to create the trail glaciation last winter. That should help regardless of what else occurs.

This morning there were markers from the south side of Memorial Bridge to 14th Street Bridge. None between Trollheim and Memorial Bridge. TR Island parking lot has been well brined. The only brine on the MVT, however, was applied by cyclists’ tires.

Either they took them down, I was hallucinating or I was still buzzed from last night’s martinis because I didn’t see any on my way back.
Trail is still brined though.
